I used tons of chapstick and balm and still got chapped lips. I also got very faint-ish feeling towards the end of the ride...i was so happy when the doors opened and I was able to breath different air!

suze May 23rd, 2006 02:00 PM

Maybe you shoulda had some wine with Richard and me?
:-)

Underhill May 23rd, 2006 02:03 PM

Next time try Burt's Bees products on your lips--and around your fingernails, too.

ilovetotravel29 May 23rd, 2006 02:05 PM

Nah, wine totally dehydrates me even more. Had a bit on the way over and totally regretted it.

travelbunny May 23rd, 2006 02:08 PM

..lots of moisturiser before I go and chapstick..I really have a problem because I often fly on a small company Lear. Legs are up to 4 hours and no potty..I have a choice between hydration and embarassment..so I always choose dehydration!

suze May 23rd, 2006 02:16 PM

Sorry, just trying to cheer you up with a little joke, both your posts today sounded so depressed, swollen, chapped, and jet lagged... Welcome home -LOL.

p.s. Start planning your next trip asap. It helps.

Luisah May 23rd, 2006 02:18 PM

"I usually have about 5 glasses of wine on the plane. That keeps me hydrated and makes me feel good."

An advantage is you don't know, or care, if you're jetlagged.

AnselmAdorne May 23rd, 2006 02:30 PM

"Start planning your next trip asap. It helps."

suze, you're right. Perfect advice.

Anselm

If only it were that easy.........it takes money to travel....... :(

suze May 23rd, 2006 03:00 PM

hey, costs nothing to dream...

I didn't say you actually had to go anywhere right away. Surely someday you'll go somewhere again? I read travel magazines about exotic locations i will likely not see (or not all of them anyway).

There are many ways to scratch the wanderlust itch besides short of purchasing a plane ticket.

I think the post-travel blahs are a bigger problem than your lack of hydration!

ilovetotravel29 May 24th, 2006 11:14 AM

Suze, I know you mean well, but can we please keep to the topic?

I appreciate your opinions, but we differ very greatly in lifestyles and views.

Again, thank you for your comments, but let's please stick to the original topic.

suze May 24th, 2006 11:50 AM

hey some people like my advice. when you start a thread you don't get to control who answers or moderate the input to your liking.

let's be honest, you don't appreciate my opinions in the least so why post saying that you do?

i have no idea how you can possibly comment on my "lifestyle" or "views, how in the world do you think you know that. nevermind, please don't answer & i'll stay off all of the many many threads you initiate. deal?

J_Correa May 24th, 2006 12:00 PM

To avoid the issues with dry skin and chapped lips, I always moisturize very well before the flight and if the flight is more than say 5 hours, I wash my face midflight and moistureize again. And I apply chapstick A LOT. I use hand lotion like crazy as well.

Celticharper May 24th, 2006 12:12 PM

On thing that I've found to help the dry skin is a spray bottle of either Evian or some other pure water, it's designed to mist pure water over your face.

These are usually sold in a small 2-4 oz size and can be found in the cosmetics aisle at any large pharmacy. Some of the fancy cosmetic lines also have a product of this sort.

This product can also be found in the complimentary toiletries pack given out in first class on Air France, that's where I learned this trick.

ilovetotravel29 May 24th, 2006 12:16 PM

Thanks for the tips on the hydrating spray...I have some, but left it at home. Yikes!

Thankfully, I feel like the tons of water I have been drinking has finally started working.

I think I may also take the advice of another poster and get those support stockings so I don't swell too much.

Suze--thank you. From your many many many postings and replies as well we just don't see to eye. I was just commenting to sticking to one thread. I do appreciate sooo greatly your ignoring my posts. I would be most grateful if you actually do that. :)

Maire May 24th, 2006 12:29 PM

Even after re-reading the posts, I don’t see that you said anything to be reprimanded for, Suze. I for one, appreciate your opinions.

ilovetotravel29 May 24th, 2006 12:32 PM

Maire, this is a long standing thing and I was not reprimanding Suze. She brought in a different thread and I just asked to keep to one thread.

This has been a longstanding issue, so I think our deal in not replying to each other's threads will be a great benefit to everyone.

suze May 24th, 2006 01:40 PM

#1- It cannot possibly be a "long standing thing" because you are a new poster on Fodor's.

#2- It is a one-way street, there's no "replying to each other's threads" because I don't start chatty threads myself, so you won't have to worry about replying to mine because there aren't any.

#3- I don't thing "everyone" could care less or even noticed.

ilovetotravel29 May 24th, 2006 01:59 PM

What happened to your promise?

ilovetotravel29 May 24th, 2006 02:02 PM

On second hand, I would rather not hear a response since it will usually be negative as usual.

I would hope that we could stick to our agreement and ignore each other.

I know that I would totally love it if you ignored my postings....I would love it tremendously!
