shannon airport car

We'll be launching or visit to Ireland from in Shannon (June) arriving about 6:00 pm and need a place to stay. We plan on renting a car but I'd rather not begin my driving experience after a day of travel or worse, in the dark so the place needs to near the airport. Any suggestions or comments about this would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are lots of nice B&B's in the Bunratty area. Bunratty Lodge comes to mind.

In June, it will not get dark until about 10pm, so there are many other options you might want to consider away from the immediate Shannon area.

agree with Budman. Bunratty is a "B&B village" with a castle, a couple of good pubs some shopping and a lot of B&Bs. It's not much more than 10 minutes from the airport and easy to negotiate. The bulk of the B&B run along the "Low Road" which run east between Durty Nellie's and Bunratty Castle.

As he said, you should have plenty of light in June. Leaving Shannon airport is pretty straight forward. You have a couple of roundabouts and then you jump onto the N18 into Bunratty.

Hope this helps.

We've booked a B and B in Ennis, which is just 24 Km from Shannon. So you wouldn't have to drive far, depends whether you're heading north or south, i guess......

I also recommend Bunratty. Since you are arriving relatively late (for checking in) you will want reservations for a place to stay. Let your B&B or hotel know you will be arriving late so they will hold the room for you. Bunratty is an easy low-stress 10 minute drive from the airport. There are good places to eat in the village and pubs if you are interested in that.

If you really don't want to drive at all that day, the Great Southern Hotel (now called CG Hotel--but if you Google Great Southern Shannon and you'll get it)can be reached by walking from the airport--its actually on the airport grounds. Never stayed there but it looks quite nice.
