Shopping Tips?

Wanted to check, till when do the summer sales last in Vienna?

Also, would Vienna (or maybe even Salzburg) have something like a TK Maxx (in UK) ?

Any suggestion for good places to shop for children clothes and toys?

Any valuable shopping tips you could share - we like shopping for clothes, confectionery and accessories. We probably would have less than a day for shopping,

If you want to see beautiful Austrian-designed and Austrian-made clothing for women, stop by Katharena Kaesbach's store:

Just stunning. Expensive, but the quality shines through every stitch. (no, you won't find TK Maxx prices, this is for inspiration and admiration...)

Look to shop along Mariahilferstrasse in Vienna.
This street between the Ringstrasse and the Westbahnhof has many name brand shops and depsrtment stores for a good medium range price.

The large deprtment store Gerngross with multi floors at Mariahilferstrasse 42- 48b has currently a summer sale - no idea how long this will last but most times these are extended during these vacation times.

They carry name brands for all - a toy section too.

You can find Armani jeans. Brax, Gant,Boss, Esprit among many others.

Numerous other shops along this street - very easy to window shop and find some that interest you.

Easy access via UBahn line U-3 and bus 2 A.

Also for toys the shop Kober on Graben in the city center has a good selection.

On Karntnerstrssse you find many shops also including department store Steffl.

Many shops have extended hours on Thursday evening to allow more time for daytime sightseeing.

Most all shops closed on Sundays.
This area between Stephansdom and the Opera.

Check the availability of Duty free shopping before your visit also- a chance to save tax monies

Use search box- look for tax free or vat refunds

For chocolates and candy items- many shops have fine selections

Heiner for example.

Often the suopermarkets like Spar and Billa have Nozart candies and much more at prices much less than tourist type shops.

I believe the shop mentioned in an above post is only found in salzburg.

There are no TK Maxx stores in Austria.

But you can try the outlet shopping centers.
One in Salzburg is close to "downtown" and easily accessible by bus, while its Vienna counterpart is further away from the city and getting there will eat up too much time.

Thanks a lot for this Molker. The information is very good and very detailed. I am sure we will enjoy shopping in Austria.

Thanks Cowboy1968 for the outlet tip - will try and make a visit if time allows.

Please keep the tips coming.

Two stores you could try are C&A, which are in just about every European city and

http://www.charles-voegele.ch/home

C&A are quite cheap but we've found some decent things there. Charles Vogele is a bit more upmarket but still reasonable pricewise. Not sure whether either is in Vienna but worth checking online or ask at your hotel.
