May they? Of course. Should they? Maybe not. In a city, in the country, hiking? More information please.

To enlarge on this query: Is there a strict dress code pertaining to the wearing of shorts by men or women in the cities of Greece. I assume they would be proper in hiking instances or scrambling around the Acropolis or other similar historic sites.

My feeling is pretty much if one has to ask, one shouldn't . . . . . .

Well maybe not..all I can say is that I did not feel odd or stared at but maybe that has something to do with me rather than the shorts. They were not short, short, by the way, but nice linen ones almost down to the knees.

As above, my feeling is it depends on the shorts. I'm pretty darn sure there is not a "strict dress code" against men or women wearing shorts in the cities of Greece.

The only problem with shorts anywhere in Europe is that sometimes churches deny you entry with bare legs or arms. I generally carry a cheap shawl with me if I am wearing shorts in hot weather. I also always wear short sleeve shirts if I am "churching". The shawl goes around my legs if it is needed.

Everyone wants to be comfortable when it is warm.

Mrs O has never been denied entry, or looked at askance, in any Greek church when wearing shorts.

Few, if any, Greek women ever wear shorts. They have better things to do with their lives than concern themselves with what foreigners wear.

Where are you going? Will it include churches?

How old are you? What size do you wear? How do your legs/rear end look in the shorts?

How short are the shorts?

Saw many, many adult women wearing shorts in Greece just a few weeks ago - both in the city and out. I would say that the majority (if not all) of them were tourists. No one seemed to be giving them a second glance at all.

On one of my trips to Italy we rented a villa and toured around with a 70 year old woman, British girlfriend of a friend. She wore shorts, mid-thigh length. Some of the looks she got from local women were priceless, some of the men her age ooogled her, she took it all in stride.

And....she wears shorts to Greece and other countries in the area all the time, where she travels often.
