Sicily trip - Any advice?

My husband and I are going to Sicily in November hitting Palermo, Mazara d. vallo, Agrigento (at least 4 days here), Serradefalco, and possible a day trip to Mota/Catania. Any advice? Good places to eat. What is a must to bring back with us. Advice on a good place to stay in Agrigento? (We're staying with friends in Mazara d. vallo.) I welcome any advice I can get. Thanks!!

must bring back is the pottery/painted platters and such. made in sicily and sky rocket places any where else.

I am only familiar w/ Agrigento of the places you mentioned. I stayed in a B+B Villa Amico in the sea side town near there. It is run by a super nice guy, Pier Domenico Amico, and 2 miles from the temples.

Hi guys.
If you're looking for some B&B, good service and top quality, in Catania, Palermo, Agrigento, Taormina, Siracusa, mail me and I will pass you the addresses I've experienced.

First of all, I definitly second the suggestion of B&B Villa Amico in Agrigento. The owner really is wonderful, really wants to help you have a good vacation.

Second, I'm curious as to the reason you picked the destinations you did? Have you been to Sicily before? Why are you not including Siracusa and Taormina? What about Segesta and Erice? All of these are more common destinations, and while there's no reason not to also go to some lesser known towns, the well known ones are that way for a reason - they're beautiful, interesting, etc. Just wondering how you came up with your choices.

Mazaro d Vallo is near Selinunte which has the best Greek ruins in Sicily. If you spend time there you may want to spend less time at Agrigento.

We're going on a missionary survey trip. That's why I've picked the destinations I have. We're flying in to Palermo, visiting a missionary in Mazara d. vallo, Agrigento is where we plan to go when we go back to stay, Serradefalco is where our pastor is originally from, and Catania and Moto is where my husband lived when he was stationed over there several years ago so he wanted to show me where he used to live. Thanks to everyone for the good advice!

Are you sure that's the name? I didn't find any such place with that name. Instead could it possibly be Motta Sant'Anastasia, which is near Catania?

Sorry, just got back from KY a few hours ago, so my brain is rather tired. It is Motta S. Anastasia, but my husband just called it "Motta" when he lived there.

Two Ts. Maybe he called it Motta, not Mota. I was just curious because I'm interested in Sicily.

The right name is Motta Sant'Anastasia, in Italian they often write it Motta S. Anastasia. It's near to Catania, 30 kms

Anyone have suggestions for places to eat in Agrigento? We plan on being there 3-4 days. We're kind of on a budget, so would appreciate advice on places to get good food without breaking the bank.

Yes, I lived in Motta (Motta Sant'Anastasia, Sicily) for 6 months, way back in 1966-1968) it's due south of Mount Etna, and west of Catania, There is a U.S. Naval Facility Sigonella located there just south of Motta, so if you are on the base you can see Motta inline with Mount Etna! The wines are excellent as well as the foods. Several dialects are spoken on the Island so you will find the word Goucho meaning both Ice and Cowboy and the word Pesche/Peche peach/fish. Have fun with the language and you will be treated very well. When we were there you could trade a pack of american cigarettes for all the grapes a kid could carry. I ruined several t-shirts that way. The fish is awesome, the fruits and vegetables are awesome. If you get the opportunity to drink Orange juice (Blood Oranges) it is Purplish in color, just close your eyes and believe me you won't believe that oranges could be so awesome sweet! Purpleish orange juice though looks very icky when your a kid. FUnny thing is whe you swim at the LaPlaya Internationale (the international Beach) it has no dress code so at 12-14 I was always impressed with the topless and near bottomless beach goers, but th ecopolest part of the entire thing for me was swimming and realizing tha tthe white things in the water floating were Pumice stone lava!!! Unreal! I still remember it to this day. As kids we ate the little shell fish that we broke open raw, and never once were sick from it. There is/was a place right next to the hotel LaPlaya that was called the GoKart Resturaunt. The owner was Italian but his wife was English! I met her and I always was allowed to go to teh beach with her and my sister. Lots of fun!!! Ciao!
