I loved the snow on Christmas, but it's getting tiring now. We're facing an entire weekend of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and cold. Guess I'll go to the grocery store, Blockbuster, then home to light a fire and cocoon for the next few days.

Yes, we do have a lot of snow on the ground here in New Hampshire USA, about 4'. We have been enjoying the skiing and snowshoeing the past few months. Unfortunately, it is now VERY cold (-24 f this morning), too cold to enjoy the outdoors!

Another thing about the snow pack here in New Hampshire is that since it's been abnormally cold for the last month just about all the snow that's fallen is still hanging around.<BR><BR>Snow banks are piled so high it can be tricky pulling out into traffic.<BR><BR>It is beautifully bright and sunny and fairly calm but cold as a witch's t*t.<BR><BR>MM

I think we've had so much snow here in DC that people aren't even storming the grocery store for milk and bread. (They were at the hardware store getting plastic sheeting and duct tape, but that's another thread.) There has been snow on the ground nearly all of January and February so far. Until just now, today the sky was bright blue and it was sunny with no wind. What a lovely day. However, it is now clouding up and perhaps may start before we have to head home from work. I haven't seen this much snow for so long (usually it's gone here within 3 days) since I lived in Indiana!

BTilke - <BR><BR>You can have as much of the snow here in central Mass as you'd like. I am so done with it. More coming and I have to drive to NY this weekend for a wedding. Do me a favor though? I'm going to be in central Germany in 3 weeks - could you either wish for you snow before or after that, please???? <BR><BR>

BTilke -<BR><BR>I am in Allentown PA and I have a son in State College PA that is not speaking to me now because he has a ticket to a Flyers game tomorrow night that he won't be using since I told him to stay where he is because of the impending snow. As much as I don't want to see it snow again, it better snow a bunch or I am going to be in even worse trouble with him.<BR><BR>By the way, Doe Mountain is now known as Bear Creek Ski area.

Celticdreams, if I'm going to see any snow here, it had better be before March 6--I leave then for 6 days in Vienna and right after I get back, we're packing up and heading to the south of France (near Cannes) for a month--I don't want the snow to finally arrive when we have to hit the road!<BR>Dutchie, thanks for the update. Everthing in the Lehigh Valley is changing. Even the Vera Cruz Tavern has a new name and let's not even think about Bethlehem Steel

I'd love not to think about the Bethlehem Steel but unfortunately my dad is one of the thousands of retirees just about to lose their benefits. In fact my mom was just on the phone asking if there isn't some way to save their life insurance. I grew up in Hellertown where about 9 out of every 10 people worked at the Steel. It is so sad to think it will soon not even exist anymore.

My father worked for Beth Steel for 30 years (most of that in the Homer Research Labs and in joint projects in Africa and S.America). We lived outside Coopersburg (true story: 2 years ago I took a minivan tour of Salzburg with 3 complete strangers. Two were a French couple and other guy was from Coopersburg!) My father retired under a special pension package--Beth Steel executives tried to renege later and it went all the way to the Supreme Court (the retirees won). My parents will lose their health benefits, but those will be picked up by the Medicare and the VA (however, they'll pay more in the long run). Fortunately, his pension is federally protected. <BR>Are you getting that &quot;bunch of snow&quot;? We drove to Brussels today and although it was below freezing most of the time, it was clear and sunny and the roads were bone dry. By the way, if you ever travel to the Ruhr Valley in central Germany, the similarities to the Lehigh Valley are striking. It's steel country. And we came home over a hilly back road outside Essen that made us feel just like we were crossing over South Mountain.

Small world - and getting smaller all the time. Coopersburg is an adorable town. I have many relatives in that area. <BR><BR>No, it's not snowing yet - but he'll just have to get over it and watch the Flyers on TV.

The snow that we had gotten is now ice all around (I know, 'cause I went whooooom-bump-splat on it. I haven't mastered walking on ice without blades yet.)<BR><BR>Tomorrow's snow has now been downgraded, but there are supposed to be a couple more (!) storms coming over the weekend...I love winter, but I'm getting just slightly ready for spring! (which has gotta be one of Philadelphia's best seasons, along with fall, but then again there's a lot that goes on in summer...)
