Sorrento
My husband and I are going to be traveling to Venice for business in November. I know this is not the ideal time to travel, but we are lucky to have some time off when we are done with the conference. We would like to travel to Sorrento, b/c of all of the great things we have heard about it, but I dont know if this is a place to really visit in the middle of November? I have heard some of the towns are not alive this time of year? If it is somewhere to visit any suggestions on where to stay for only 2 nights before we head to Rome? Thanks!

November is not the best tie for a beach resort. Many hotels and restaurants will be closed, ferries are scarce - and sometimes don;t run at all if the seas are rough. Also, the days are short, leaving not a whole lot to do in the evenings.
I would definitely spend the time in Florence or Rome instead.

That is what I was afraid of, I wish we could visit at a different time of year b/c the entire AC looks beautiful! B/c we have been to Florence already is there a different city that you would recommend visiting for a few days before heading to Rome?!? We have 2 days and 2 nights in between Venice and Rome. Thank you for your input!!

I agree with Ira about Bologna. I just did a trip to Venice, Bologna and Rome. I caught a cold my last night in Venice and wasn't feeling that great in Bologna, but I still enjoyed it. If you want more information, here's my trip report:

I like TuckH's ideas. With Venice and Rome as your "bookends," I think a little time in smaller towns would be a nice contrast. But watch those city pairs; for example, Assisi and Siena would be tough.
