Sorrento hotel recommendations

I would love to stay at the Bellevue Syrene but its really expensive. I would prefer something around 180-200eu. Whats the story on La Tonarella, I've read on this site that has peeling paint in the rooms. I don't mind a small b & b but I insist on charming, clean, nice bathrooms etc.
Suggestions please.
Judy

We stayed at La Tonarella in March 2001.
Room # 1 is a corner double with 2 balconies, 1 small with table and chair and a larger shared with 2 other rooms. The room was freshly painted, had a large amroire and small antique dressing table and a floor to ceiling french door opening to a killer view of Vesuvios, clean and modern bathroom with shower and new tile. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and breakfast room with same panaromic view.
The staff is friendly, however the owner is somewhat distant and not very helpfull. We paid about $110 per night.
How I wish I was on that balcony right now enjoying my am coffee.

We're going to try La Minervetta next month (May/2002). Adjacent to La Tonnerella, but cheaper. All rooms reportedly have balconies.
http://www.tornasurriento.com/alberghi/la%20minervetta/minervetta.htm
We stayed at La Tonnarella last June and didn't see any peeling paint. Our room was nice enough and we loved the balcony.

Judy: Did you inquire about the rates in the annex at the Bellevue Syrene? This consists of a separate building adjacent to the hotel. Although you don't have the view from your room, you do have the terrace and the beautiful dining room for breakfast each morning, both with great views of the bay and Vesuvio. I'm sure it's less expensive and all the hotel's facilities are yours.

j

Judy,
I was at La Tonnarella about three weeks ago. My room was small , which doesn't bother me, but dreary with dull furniture. The bathroom had very pretty blue and white tiles, but the shower curtain had seen better days. LARGE patio with three chaise lounges and a great view.

I like the idea of checking the Syrene's annex. I wish I had done that. I thought La Tonnarella was just OK; if I ever returned to Sorrento, I'd stay elsewhere.

M.

We stayed at Hotel Minerva last August. I think it is just down from La Tonarella and across from La Minervetta. It was great!! WE had a large corner room with tiled floors and bath, beautifully appointed furntiture and balcony overlooking the bay with great views. The staff was wonderful and you could walk into town (depending on your stamina)!
