Stay 1-2 nights in Ghent or a day trip from Bruges?
Hello all. We are going to the Bruges Beer festival again in Feb. We love Bruges and have friends we are taking for the first time as well as meeting friends from the UK we met last year! We travelled last time to the Ardennes as well.
So here is my question. I would like to see Ghent. Is it possible to see in one day via train? Or do you think we should spend a night or two?
Here are my thoughts:
1. we are doing Airbnb so each check in and out comes with cleaning fees etc and time.
2. We are arriving Bruges on Jan. 30th and have until Feb 4th or 5th before we head to Amsterdam.

It is a 24-26 minute train ride from Brugge to Ghent and there are 4 trains per hour. It doesn't get much simpler than that.
Whether something is "see-able" in one day is up to your desires on what you want to see, but at 25 minutes per trip, you can go back a second time if you feel the need for much less trauma than that which is involved in checking in and out, and probably still pay less.

I much prefer the openness and local feeling of Ghent over Bruges. I absolutely love Ghent in Summer, especially in the evening when everybody is out partying and eating along the river. However, it will be cold, perhaps windy along the river, and get dark early when you are there, so I don’t think Ghent would be as much fun then. You can easily see the things you mention in a day trip. It is fast and easy.
