Suggestions for accomodation 5 nights in Rome and its surrounds (Dec-Jan)
Hello,
We hope to spend New years eve in Rome plus 4 nights after that there as well (Dec 31-Jan 4). Mother and two kids (18&22).
(1) Where do you suggest we stay on New years eve so we don't have to be travelling in the night to get back to our accomodation. We want to have a nice dinner somewhere and watch the festivities and get back to our accomodation by foot (walking) after.
Would like a central area where there are lots of shops and restaurants and interesting places.
Prepared to spend 160-200 Euros per night. Hotel preferred. Would also consider a self contained apartment.
Thanks

Just to be clear, you're looking for a triple room for up to 200 EUR a night. Right?
I've never been in Rome on NYE, but I understand there are events happening in multiple locations. A concert near the Colosseum, fireworks at Piazza del Popolo, doubtless big crowds in Piazza Navona, at the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc. Any hotel located in or near the circle made by connecting these spots would be close enough to walk and be surrounded by shops and restaurants. But I don't know how many places are open on NYE and NYD.
I can recommend the Hotel Fontanella Borghese which is located about halfway between the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona and not far from Piazza del Popolo. They are offering a triple room for your 4 nights for 760 EUR total.

You could probably find an apartment for a lower rate, but I wouldn't wait too long to find something that works for you.

The apt we stayed at in Rome right off Campo Dei Fiori is available for a total of 632 euros for the four nights, including cleaning and booking fees. Exactly as pictured on website. Great location.

I would suggest staying in the Pantheon, Piazza Navona or Campo dei Fiori area, and not just for NYE but for your entire stay. Also consider staying in Trastevere - just slightly less central but a great neighborhood and perfect for your kids ages. Look into an apt. should be cheaper than hotel - vrbo.com, airbnb.com
