That's probably the mainline train via Lausanne and not the much more scenic Goldn Pass route that takes longer and does not go via Lausanne nor Thun.

No, that's the usual itinerary via Visp.
But it's a nonsense to sacrify the Golden Pass in order to be able to do the Lake Thun boat ride.

Two options depending the weather-
#1- dp Montreux at 8:44 - Interlaken Ost via Zweisimmen, ar Interlaken Ost at 12:28
- store the bags at locker at train station (lockers open 7:00 - 18:30)
- Interlaken Ost - Wilderswil 13:05 - 13:09
- Wilderswil - Schynige Platte 13:25 - 14:17
- SPlatte
- SPlatte - Wilderswil 16:21- 17:13
- Wilderswil - Interlaken 17:18- 17:23
- Interlaken - Grindelwald 17:35 - 1808

"Day 8 (6/16) Golden Pass Panoramic Express (Montreux-Zweisimmen-Spiez) in AM, Niesen in the PM, continue to Interlaken Ost, followed by BOB train to Grindelwald.I would stop in route at Spiez. for a ride on the Niesen Bahn (NB) in nearby Mülenen (8 min train ride from Spiez). Luggage Storage at Spiez Station. The NB is a funicular (2 sections). The first section , a 60 passenger car, takes you to Schwandegg. This is a 14 min ride up the side of the mountain. You then change to another section which climbs up the sheer side of the mountain to the top station in 12 min. The ride is spectactular and the exquisite panoramic view from the top- Thunersee to the north, Interlaken and the Brienzersee to the east, the Alps to the south and southwest. Also, the time required is less than Schynige Platte. " - dugi_otok

How about this one? compared to SPlatte, less popular but conveniently located

So you prefer the Belle Epoque train to the panoramic train. Change at Zweisimmen and Spiez.

Niesen is NOT less popular than Schynige Platte.
But if you leave Montreux with the Belle Epoque train, you could easily have lunch at Niesen Kulm (ar 13.00).

No special interest in Belle Epoque train, but its dp time 8:44, not too early or late, there's no 8:44 dp time on the golden panoramic pass train. What is the difference between the other golden pass and Belle Epoque ?

thank you

Panramic trains are modern trains with large windows.
Belle epoque trains are belle epoque wagons, as their name says. The journey time is longer.

Ok, thanks. got it. the Belle Epoque train takes roughly 30 plus minutes longer and one more change then Golden Pass Panoramic train, to get to Interlaken Ost. Golden pass does not run very often in a day. But the first part of the route of Belle Epoque from Montreux to Zwiesimmen seems to have the similar views as Golden pass?

Yes that's the ballyhooed real scenic part - along with Brunig Pass route it takes to Lucerne.

As long as we could experience part of the real scenic route, we're happy

Got it thanks. So we could possibly do Golden Pass Belle Epoque train (old wagons) via Zeisimmen, Niesen Funicular via Spiez, and Lake Thun Boat ride from Spiez to Interlaken ost, Is it doable in one day?

Yes it's doable but a long day - I'd do Lake Thun float as a whole leisurely day (though I think Lake Brienz is a better flat for many reasons. What's so attractive about Niesen Funicular - never been there but can't top any of several in Jungfrau area.

For this option I would take the modern panoramic train with the large windows leaving Montreux at 7:44 arriving Spiez at 9:44.

The Belle epoque train has 26 stops vs the Panoramic which has only 11 stops. The panorama train arrives Spiez 2 hrs before the B E train. There is a downhill walk/bus ride from the train station to the schiffstation.

You may want to spend some time at the waterfront and the castle grounds.
