Tipping a Tour Guide
Looks like 3 of us will be hiring a tour guide from Context Travel for a trip through the Vatican musuems. Not sure of the final cost, but I'm guessing it will be about $450. What would you fellow travelers recommend we tip the guide if he/she does a great job?
Many thanks,
Susan

We tipped our Context tour guide 15 euros in Venice (because we bought her ice cream and a drink after our tour and that was all the cash we had left!) She seemed perfectly happy and even protested a bit about receiving a tip. We tipped our Rome Context tour guide 20 euros after our Borghese tour and she seemed happy as well. My hubby tipped his Context running tour guide in Rome 15 euros and she seemed pleased with that.

We did a lot of private tours on one of our cruises. People seemed to think the general rule of thumb was 10% of the tour cost was the way to go. In China we bought our guide lunch so factored that in as part of the tip.
