Travel in Holland
Hello,
I am arriving in Amsterdam on April 23rd in the morning and will be leaving on April 26th at night. I know is a short stay but want to get the most out of it. I plan to visit the town on the first two days and then I wanted to know if it was best to take hole day tour to go to Delft or to Rotterdam ? What do you recommend? Also should I travel by train? Are there any other touristic towns I should go instead? Thanks, Simy Jelaso

Train is the easiest way to get around.
What are your interests? What are you hoping to see - more museums, old cities, windmills, tulips, countryside?
Rotterdam is a very modern city, with some fascinating modern architecture, but it is not every one's cup of tea.
You may prefer Den Haag, which you could combine with Delft easily, or Leiden, Gouda, or, closer to Amsterdam, Haarlem.
Or a trip out to Keukenhof to see the flowers.

Simy,
I am also going to be visiting Amsterdam in April. We're staying in a flat and the landlord has sent us his sightseeing recommendations. For day trips he recommends the Keukenhof gardens (you don't have to be interested in gardens to be floored by this enormous, incredibly beautiful park, especially since the time of your visit is perfect for tulips). To get there take the train from Centraal Station to the airport (every hour at 32 past on platform 13/14)then from the airport take the "Keukenhof" special bus, line #58. Total trip 40 minutes. Alternatively, Haarlem is 20 minutes by train and is a lovely, well preserved old town, and den Hague(the Hague)(45 minutes),the capital of the Netherlands and the site of the World Court of Justice, has many historic buildings and the famous Mauritshuis for the Vermeers. Depending on your interests Rotterdam may not be the ideal choice. It was heavily bombed in WWII and there is not much historic left, though of course it is a thriving modern city with many cultural attractions. Have a great trip!

Thanks to all for the suggestions. For sure I am visiting all there is in Amsterdam, museums, boat trip, parks, restaurants but I have a day that I can use to go out. I have been told that Delft is a must see. Is it far away by train?
In Amsterdam I am thinking on the Toren Hotel. A friend of mine was there and said it was overlooking a canal on the city center and walking distance to almost everywhere. Is this correct? What about pricing? Do you recommend any other in the downtown area, nice, clean and affordable? Thanks

The Toren is lovely and in a great location, depends on your idea of affordable. Delft IMO is a mini and QUIET Amsterdam. It is lovely but on a limited trip, it would not be my choice for an extra day. There is ALOT to do in Amsterdam so if you think you don't want to do Kuekenhoff, stay in the city. But the tulips are spectacular. Another idea if the day is nice would be to rent a bike in Haarlem and either ride the tulip fields or out to the sea.

thanks, Kuekenhoff sound great. I do love tulips and the bike rental sounds good too.
I have reviewed the Toren..... not affordable at all ,really.
Can you suggest another hotel facing a canal in the city center cheaper than this? Thanks

Keukenhof, one F. You can rent bikes by Keukenhof for a ride through the fields if you want.
Brouwer, www.hotelbrouwer.nl/ is popular with Fodorites. Many canal hotels are expensive because of their position.

Boot in Dutch = Boat in English, so not a misspelling
Bed & Bootje Amsterdam http://www.bedmetbootje.nl/index.php?paginaid=2 was featured in the ANWB (AAA, CAA equivalent) monthly magazine. The B&B includes the use of a canal sloop.
Another option for staying on a canal in Amsterdam is a houseboat stay.

@SimyJ travel to Delft from Amsterdam is about 45 minutes by train from Central Station in Amsterdam. There are two trains an hour that stop in Delft from there. Delft station is close to the old town.
