Travelling Alone on Globus Best of Italy Tour

Wondering if this is a good tour group for a single woman travelling alone (58). The trip is whirlwind but appears like a good start for a new traveller. The trip is scheduled for early May. Thoughts?

That would work very well for a single person. Be sure to check this web sites prices against the Globus price. We have used them and they are reliable. www.pavlustravel.com

Do they charge a single supplement? Do they give you a roommate (if that is what you want)?

My first trip ever to Europe was on a tour. I quickly made friends.

Yes it was a small supplement and I get to room alone. I am happy with that plan. I do not mind being alone. I just prefer it not be all couples.

Thanks

aimless - I don't know about Globus, but some companies like SAGA have certain tours/holidays which they restrict to to singles only, so you don't have that problems with couples.

just a thought!

You can call Globus and ask how many single spaces there are on the tour and how many singles have signed up so far.

The first trip I made to Italy was on a Globus tour. There were 4 other singles. The group was friendly, both the couples and the singles. I've since stayed in contact with 2 of the other singles and every year we do a big trip and also a shorter trip in the States.

I just got back from a Trafalgar trip to Turkey and there were 6 other singles. Again a nice group.

I had my Fodor's Turkey guide with me.

As long as you have your own room, I think it should be an enjoyable introductory trip. Even if it turns out to be all couples or families.

Honestly I often travel solo, am around your age, though I've never taken a group tour, but generally speaking it's often couples who are friendlier and 'adopt' me more than I happen to strike it up with another single person, when I'm traveling.

The group will bond...you will find at least a couple of other singles on the tour....I'm glad you took the single supplement...forced roommate sharing sometimes works out bgut more often there are problems.

Relax...you will find people with similar interests and strike up new friends. Globus is very reputable but unfortunately (this is person editorial) the definitions in Italy of first class is a tad below North America...and be ready for the pushing and shoving in the Autogrills (but then again even if you're travelling independently you have to put up with that stuff!

Not really (imo). Because when you travel independently, you can eat where you want.

Aimless2, go and enjoy. I have been to Europe many times - with adult children, with friends, on tours, independently etc. My last several trips have been on Insight flying solo. I have a decade on you but have never had trouble mixing in. Even if there are no other "singles," you will often find mother & daughters, pals, or families who will be very friendly and welcoming.
Word of advice- FORGET ABOUT ROOM SHARING WITH A STRANGER. I love luxuriating in my own digs.

Enjoy Italy...

If you are really concerned you can ask the company how many other singles have signed up. However, groups at times tend to form around interests - with people deciding on the shopping option or the hike up to the waterfall option based on gender and physical ability rather than marital status.

Just be sure that you know what things YOU want to get out of the trip - so you can break away from the group and see your special sights if necessary. (In my limited experience tours spend a lot of time shopping for tschotkes no one really want to needs and making coffee stops when you would rather be seaing something. Also eat in hotels - I bagged this after a couple of days - and way too early for me.)
