Unused Schengen tourist visa?
I recently got issued a Schengen visa to travel alone to Italy for tourism and wasn't able to travel because I fell sick.
I am still sick and don't think I can travel within the visa's validity period.
Will not using a Schengen C visa have any negative effect on my future visa applications to Europe and other countries?
My reason is genuine after all, but I am just worried if it is frowned upon to not use a tourist Schengen visa.
Thanks

do I have to inform the consulate? I have been reading on this and some people seem to indicate that it is frowned upon and one should inform the consulate and get the visa canceled.
Should I inform the consulate/embassy?

Why not call the officials and ask? You don't need to reveal who you are to ask the question. If it turns out the recommend following a procedure, you'll be glad you asked -- and even if they tell you what Alec did, your mind will be at rest.
Hope you get well soon!

thanks sandralist?
But I don't know how to contact the officials. They give out no phone number.
The only route to get in contact with the embassy is to go there with a visa application. do you know of a way to contact the officials?

No need to contact the consulate or anyone else. A lot of people get a visit visa then don't or can't use it. It's not a problem. It may be different with long-stay visa such as spouse/work, where you may have to indicate on the application form about your previous visa history, and why you are re-applying.
