Vegetarian in London?
Anyone have any recommendations for vegetarian food in London? My aunt who I'm travelling with is a meat-eater, so I'm trying to find restaurants with both, however I'm sure she wouldn't mind eating vegetarian a couple times. I know there are lots of Indian restaurants with vegetarian cuisine, however we tried veg in the US once and didn't particularly like it. I'd be willing to try it again, but she is reluctant. Any ideas?

From high end to inexpensive almost every London restaurant will have a vegetarian option. In north London The Gate and Manna are great options. Cranks is vegetarian fast food with a few outlets in London.
Google vegetarian and london and see what comes up!

Most restaurants have at least one or two vegetarian dishes these days, if not more.
If are one of the "vegetarians" who actually eat seafood then you'll find it even easier.
Would recommend checking out some of the ethnic restaurants too - chinese, thai and vietnamese restaurants have lots and lots of wonderful veggie options, Turkish and Greek places, though offering lots of meat based main meals, usually have plenty of vegetarian starters that make a great meze meal in themself when several are ordered. The UK has a much higher Indian population than most parts of the US and therefore we do have a lot of Indian restaurants with extensive meat and veggie menus - I'd try again before ruling these out. Look for dishes such as channa (chickpea) curries, muttar paneer (peas and indian cheese), two of my favourites.

Ditto Kavey's reply.
Ethnic restaurants are a great place to find vegetarian food.
Our family went to London a few years ago with one daughter who was a vegan (no animal products of any kind, including eggs or dairy products), and we ate mostly at ethnic restaurants.
We had Thai food, Chinese, Indian, and Moroccan, and there was something good for everybody-- meat eaters and vegetarians alike.

A particularly refined, beautiful and upscale
Indian restaurant which would accommodate both vegetarians and those
who eat meat is Tamarind in London. I have
eaten there and it is heavenly. I have recommended it to several people who had
vegetarians in their families, and many told
me it was their best meal in London. This
is not your typical "curry" place - beautiful
decor and ambience and excellent service.
It is in Mayfair, and you should reserve in
advance (but perhaps only by a day or two).
Another option is eating Italian; many pasta
dishes are done without meat, but with lovely vegetables, etc. I recommended Locanda Locatelli to another poster. You
will need reservations for this one. Prices
are not cheap, but both provide really nice
dining experiences.

Try "Food for Thought", 31 Neal Street, Covent Garden. Very small, with limited seating, but great, basic veggie meals. While in the area visit Neal's Yard Dairy for a wonderful cheese experience. Just walking by the door is an olfactory adventure! -- Enjoy
