Visitors Travel Card-AAA members
Just wanted to post that as a AAA member you can stop by any office and purchase the London Visitors Travel Card (3,4, or 7 day) for all zones or just zone one. It allows travel before 9:30am and our prices as of today 2/5/03 through AAA in arizona were:
$33each adult
$18 child

There was no service charge and they ordered them direct from Eurorail...I am picking them up at the AAA office on Monday. I was not able to get them online (waited to long), luckily AAA came through for us! Just wanted to share incase someone else is ever in the same pinch!

For those who want 7-day cards, surely it is less trouble to just buy one when you get to the tube station in London, rather than making a separate trip to the AAA office. The prices are about the same. (You do need to bring a passport-sized snapshot if you're buying one in London).

I agree with Anonymous. I'm not sure why people think they need a travelcard before they go. We were there 2 weeks ago, and we brought snapshots with us, and just went to a ticket window at a tube station to get 7-day travelcards. It took all of 2 minutes and was the same price as the visitor card.

BTW, not once were we ever asked to produce a travelcard or show our ID to anyone.

Most tube stations have gates and you have to put your travelcard or ticket in the slot before you can pass. If you catch a bus, you have to show your travelcard to the driver. If you buy a travelcard in London, there are often queues at the ticket offices, but you only have to queue once and don't have to go to a ticket office again once you have your travelcard.

I am not sure either why one would want to purchase a zone 1 7 day Visitor card for $33 US , when a zone 1 weekly travel card costs £16.50 ( about $28 US ) in London. Both types of cards are good before 9:30 and both give you unlimited travel on tubes & buses for 7 days.
The actual travel card ( no matter where it is purchased) is what is inserted into the 'turnstile' each time you use the tube , so you do in effect have to *show *that.

Bellarose...

Your best bet is the 1 day travelcards for zones 1 & 2 (assuming you are not tubing in from the airport)...no pictures no hassles. Just step up to the booking office tell them you want a 1 day travelcard, give them your credit card and you're done. One caveat...the travelcards are only good after 9:30 AM on weekdays (unless you want to spend an extra £1 to get an all day travelcard)....now if you're there for a weekend you buy a weekend travelcard which gives you Sunday for 1/2 off and there is no 9:30 restriction...no picture id's required.

Or you can buy online, slightly cheaper than you would pay in London - www.ticket-on-line.com
