weather in October
We are deciding between the Dordogne and Provence regions for our arrival the first week of October. I've read some guides on average temperatures and rainfall, but usually find first hand info more reliable. When previously in Provence it was in the summertime and the weather was beautiful with flowers everywhere. I really don't know what to expect traveling in the fall. Any info about these areas for this time of year would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with ira, all you can do is look at historical temps, and then check the forecast before you go.
For every person who tells you that when he was there the temperatures were quite hot, there will be someone else who tells you that when she was there it was unusually cool.

In the early 90's Europe was having a heat wave and everyone brought Fall clothes and were buying t-shirts on the street just to have cooler clothes. Later, in 1996, it was very cool in that my travel friend had to buy a jacket.
I think, overall, October is a great month to travel but you need to check the weather sites prior to going and pack accordingly. I would not be discouraged about travel in October. You do get all the wonderful Fall colors.
