What part of Rome should we stay in - 3 days only!
We are headed to Rome at the end of September - because we only have a few days in Rome - I want to stay in a "centrally located" spot - somewhat near some/all the sights; Coliseum, Vatican, Forum etc. My husband has never been to Italy and wants to see the big sights - and it's been a long time since I've been back. We are searching sleepinitaly.com for B&B's or apartments but I'm not sure where to look - any help would be appreciated!! Daryl gt;

Rome is big, there's not one location that is equally near all the sights.
Most people like the area in and between the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Pantheon,and Campo dei Fiori.
Being near the Colosseum or at the Vatican puts you farther away from the Historic Center.
Do a search here and at trip advisor for these two budget-minded places which always seem to get good comments
Hotel Parlamento
Pensione Panda
If you want more upscale, you could mention your budget per night.

Hi -
Not sure what the area is called, but we stayed at the St. Regis Grand and it was a fabulous location. We were central enough to walk virtually everywhere. Its a swanky, expensive place, but it was our honeymoon. Have fun!

We stayed next to the Piazza Navona, and it was perfect! We took a bus to the Colleseum, and taxied to the Vatican, though we could have walked (we were pretty tired from the day before, and had two tired kids). But enjoyed the Piazza Navona at night, and could walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps from there.

dloech, what's our budget?
IMO, these are the Best areas: Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo dei fiori.
We'll be there Oct 5th - 8th, this time staying in a Campo dei fiori apartment. (My 3rd trip to Rome, husband's 1st) But on my last trip (2003), I took a couple girlfriends and my mom (all of whom had never been to Italy before), and an absolutely Wonderful 1st impression of Roma was arriving at our hotel right next to the Pantheon, with room windows looking right out at the gorgeous Pantheon and square. They also have a nice rooftop terrace for cocktails.
Albergo del Senato: IMO, a real "WOW! I'm really staying in Rome" experience. Something that might be nice for your husband. www.albergodelsenato.it
