Las Ramblas, of course, Gaudi's amazing architecture that makes you feel like you're in a different world ...if you're with children, skip the aquarium, interesting, but not captivating...Not being a picky eater, I can't exactly say; my advice would be to try the local cuisine, which is excellent-lots of seafood...but if you are very americanised, have no fear, there are plenty of American-y restaurants...many areas cater to tourists...

i agree with the above, las ramblas is a must. there are all sorts of vendors from bird sellers to mimes along the street. the parque gruell (sp?), gaudi's home, is a few acres of his artistic creations & masterful manipulations of form. don't forget his unfinished sagrada familia church too, located closer to las ramblas. the picasso museum was unbelievable. it houses the most extensive collection of his childhood works that i have seen. the miro museum near the olympic stadium is also fabulous. you may just skip out on the cruise once you get to spain! have a safe trip.

I would definitely see Gaudi's architecture especially the Sagrada Familia. Las Ramblas during the day. I have heard that one needs to be very cautious at night. If you get a chance, go to the Olympic Stadium, Mont Juic, for a panoramic view of the city.

Just back from 2 weeks in Spain. We spent the last 3 1/2 days in Barcelona. Spent most of our time on Gaudi sights (Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera and Guell Park). Best advice is to go for the tourismo bus (hop on hop off service for one or two days). After seeing the sights we wanted to, we were still able to use it for most of our regular transport needs.

Picky eater? There may be some problem here. Stick with the grilled fish and meats.

Hello-

We just got back from Barcelona -- we were there to embark on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. Spent 3 days in Barcelona. Watch your purse/backpack/camera case -- it's rip off city there. Also, while Gaudi and Las Ramblas are definitely great -- you must make time to go see La Palau de Musica. Amazing. Absolutely beautiful, cathedral like palace built at the turn of the century to celebrate music. Acoustically perfect!! Stained glass ceiling, fabulous statuary and design. Much more worthwhile (in my humble opinion) than Sagadra Familia. All picky eaters must also visit La Boqueria -- one of Europe's largest food markets. It's filled with some of the planets most interesting foods to eat -- pig heads and feet, calf brains, intestines, whole octopus, etc. And remember when you travel -- if you run into a situation you don't like (like the local cuisine), change your opinion about what you like!! Have fun - Marilyn
