What to wear to a 3* restaurant?

I know, just what we need, another "what to wear" thread. However, I need to know if my husband will need a coat and tie to eat at Don Alfonso. He had hoped he could get by with nice slacks and shirt.

You may be seated but he will stand out. I bet the table is by the kitchen door. Next, query the restaurant. By the way, what do you plan not to wear?

If this is the Don Alfonso in Portugal I think it is more than a 3 star place. Why not ask THEM! Don't you think they would be more of an authority than some of us?

The pictures look like the guests were wearing dressy casual.

My guess is you wear what would not get you arrested on the street.

Ever since I ate next to a man in Paris wearing an undershirt of the tank top, ribbed variety, I ceased to worry about what I had on unless the the waiters had on tuxedos.

Call and ask. Even at the 3-star level, attire can vary greatly. I've been known to wear jeans and a blazer, even to very nice places.

He does not need a tie, but a jacket is appropriate.

Thanks, all, for the responses. ekscrunchy, I think he can manage a jacket (and considering that a tie is very light to pack, I'll tell him to bring one just in case).
