What you think? Innsbruck or Munich as a base after 3 nights in Salzburg

Hey everyone, I am asking for your help to decide which city, Munich or Innsbruck, to pick for our 2-night stay after 3 nights in Salzburg. We are heading to Berner Oberland afterward for 4 nights there. I have never been to this region. I like to use Munich or Innsbruck as a base to visit Garnisch, Mittenwald, Oberamagau, and the King Lewig's fairy tale castle. Which city serves us better in terms of convenience and diverse scenery to see? Thanks in advance. I would love to hear what you think.

Munich has more to offer than Innsbruck. A two night stay indicates one full day. You will have time for only one excursion. But I would skip the excursion and visit Munich.

How are you traveling and what time of year? I agree with Michael, Munich has much more to offer, but if you are only using it as a base to hit the sites in Bavaria, the charms of Munich would be wasted. I have to assume you are traveling by car due to the number of sites you are visiting. Why not stay in Oberamagau, Mittenwald, or Garmisch. If you are not traveling in winter, there should be plenty of rooms available in Garmisch. Oberamagu is a little less convenient, but still picturesque and a good base. Why bother with the city traffic if you don't have to. I would also suggest visiting Linderhof castle as well as Neuschawnstein. Linderhof is not as well know, but Ludwig II Spent more time there and the grotto is amazing. Another sight near Oberamagu is Ettal Abbey, a beautiful Baroque complex.

I am with Agedude.
You have to decide if you are more interested in Bavaria castles and landscape (and then stay in Garmisch or Fussen) or in a big city, with a lot of museums, palaces, architecture (and then stay in Munchen).

After a 3-night stay in Salzburg, I'd choose Munich. Innsbruck is a charming and sort-of quaint Austrian small city on a river that relies heavily on tourism -- a great place to visit, but in many ways a lot like Salzburg. Munich is a large city, with all the pluses and minuses that go with that.

Thank you all for the wonderful inputs. We will be arriving in Prague and see the wonderful architecture and museums. Therefore, Munich does not appeal to me for this trip. I would like to see more beautiful landscape and charming quaint small cities. Considering all your advice, I think we will be better off staying at Mittenwald or Garmisch as Agedude suggested close to the places we like to visit. You all are so great at pointing out things that I simply overlook. I really appreciate so much.
