Yes, he said that they were practically free because Via Michelin priced the driving costs to be more (I could have misread).
I was surprised that Rex got couchettes though as he usually suggests that people fly between destinations (if memory serves). If I remember right, some other poster pointed this out.
So I'm also pretty curious to read the trip report even though I know that it's not a trip that I'd be doing any time soon.

Yes, I really am working on it. The couchettes were great, in my opinion; my wife seemed to not sleep quite as well as I did. More details in the trip report. This week, I promise.
I explained prior to departure that this particular train ride served two purposes - - one, so that I can speak from experience about an overnight train (and not just from presumed prejudices against the idea) - - and two, because it really did give us the fullest use of our last day in Europe (it departed Biarritz at 11 pm), and provided us arrival in Paris at 7 am; there was no flight available... at anything even vaguely comparable in price or timetable.
As it turned out, Paris disappointed us, in the four hour time window we had before leaving for the airport - - also already described - -

But thanks for (persistently) asking... I don't really feel nagged.
Best wishes,
Rex

For those of us who are addicted here, have you done your report yet Rex? (it's the school teacher in me
=======================
Actually, hoping...
...I need a good schoolteacher "thwack" to get me focused and back to work on my report. Fortunately, this ought to be the first good day on over a week, for me to put some uninterrupted time into completing my report.
So, really, seriously.. before this day is over, I genuinely do promise to have something posted...

We'll see if they remove it as quickly as Kate envisions.
