Have you purchased your airfare yet? If so, with whom and how did you fare (couldn't resist)?
We are still holding out for anything under $950...

We are going Sept. 4-13 and we booked our airfare way back in Feb. through Orbitz. We're flying LAX-VCE (with a layover at JFK) on Delta/Alitalia for $600/pp. I haven't seen anything comparable since- the prices have been hovering around $1000/pp. We got lucky- as soon as we bought our tickets, the price skyrocketed back up. It was a Sunday afternoon in Feb., so I guess the moral of the story is that a sale can happen anytime, then come and go quickly.
There's been some other threads recently about airfare and more frequent travelers say not to give up hope yet. Try searching for those threads (something like Italy AND airfare)- there might be more info there. Good luck!

We are going Sept. 7 -20. DCA to MXP with a layover at JFK. The airfare was $690..... purchased on the Delta website. The tickets were purchased in early March. The only way I got that price was to leave on a Tuesday and return on a Monday. Any other combination of arrival/departure days resulted in a much higher fare.

I will be going Sept 2-20, airfare is still very high then. I ended up getting it using my United Airlines mileage because better deal (=$700 each) versus paying $1600+ for each! I am surprised how high the tickets still are at that time.....

I'm flying from Chicago (ORD) to Rome (FCO) on Sept. 1, 2004 and returning to Chicago on Sept. 9, 2004. Got roundtrip tickets from Expedia.com for $628. Something I found interesting...that same ticket was listed for $750. THe kicker was- the one that was for $628 was listed as a special fare and didn't list the airline or time of departure. But, it did say it left between 6am and 10pm. Because I had a flexible schedule to work with, I purchased the cheaper ticket. It ended up being the exact same flight as the more expensive one. I'd never experienced that before, but it ended up being worth the risk. Most of the flights I looked at left early evening from Chicago anyway, so it didn't matter that thre was a possiblitiy it left in the evening. Good luck. There's good rates out there, you just have to constantly check the websites for them. I just happened to be checking on them about three weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon and found them. All the other sites I checked- Yahoo and Orbitz- were all at least $950 at the time.

We booked through our travel agent who in turn booked through Delta. We travel Sept 13 for 2 weeks & we got it at $650 out of Florida. She told us this is higher than what she could get because they are 2 seperate arrival & departure areas- we arrive in Rome & leave from venice.

We're going Aug 31 - Sept 13, CHI to VCE, ROM to CHI. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't found anything under 850. I don't know how long to wait...am a little depressed to see that I apparently missed some good fares. Please post if you find any good deals, and I'll do the same.
