Why do so many people go to Italian cities over Easter?

First of all let me say thanks to everyone who answers the questions people pose on this forum. I'm sure I can speak for everyone by saying it is very much appreciated. Second, I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for the sins of anyone who would accept His free gift of salvation. I believe logically and spiritually that is the only way God could allow us into His eternal kingdom. Sin is just not allowed there, so it had to be dealt with. God in His love and mercy paid the penalty Himself on our behalf. Our responsibility or work is to simply trust God and humble ourselves before Him. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. Today is a wonderful day! The day Jesus Christ willingly died and paid the penalty of anyones sin that would place their faith in Him. All glory be to God!

I believe in none of the above. But I hold to this notion:<BR><BR>"If you believe in everlasting life, you shall have it".<BR><BR>If you lead a life you are proud of, if you teach things to your children, and they remember you and where they learned it, and tell their kids and so on, then you do live on after your death.<BR><BR>And it is not necessary to believe in the supernatural to hold these views.<BR><BR>Many people died in the past, at the hands of persecuors and contributed to good things in life today. Jesus was a real person who was one of those people.<BR><BR>If he or others think/thought that he is/was the son of God, I take no offense at that.<BR><BR>Many people think they are very important. Some of them are right.<BR>

I'm ignoring the content of the above postings and responding to the thread title only.<BR><BR>I've never been to Italy for Easter, but I can tell you why I had toyed with the idea of going there for Easter this year, even though I'm not a religious person. Many towns in Italy have very rich folk traditions and pageantry during Holy Week. For example, in Sicily several towns and smaller cities are known for having very interesting processions on Good Friday or Holy Thursday. These are basically religious, of course, but there are also vestiges of ancient pre-Christian traditions mixed into the tradition, and I would find it very interesting to watch.<BR><BR>I would find it very interesting to see Holy Week and Easter in parts of Greece or Spain.

We went to Italy over Easter for one reason only - the kid's spring break fell at that time and the frequent flyer miles required in the spring are fewer than in the summer.<BR><BR>It was crowded everywhere we went due to Italian school kids being on holiday also. I really don't recommend it.

If you go to Italy for Easter, I think you need to do some research and find the towns and smaller cities that celebrate holy week and Easter in an interesting and traditional way. These would generally be places off the beaten track for tourists.

People's religious beliefs or lack thereof have no place on a travel forum. No proselytizing!

Now dearly departed.<BR><BR>And yes, they DID let me in here.<BR><BR>But I can tell you, there are no proselytes here in heaven.<BR><BR>Nobody has any money to pay with. They did away with that up here centuries ago.<BR><BR>So everbody wants freebies. All day long. I have to keep a low profile.<BR>

They go to Italy to go to church at Easter.<BR><BR>To beg forgiveness for the ugly Christians that claim to be morally superior to the topless folks at the beach.<BR>

If you simply ignore the religious comments this is actually an interesting travel question.

I admire Jesus deeply. It isn't easy being so thin. He obviously took his diet pills and lived on birdseed and raisins. The only criticism I have of Jesus is that if I were the son of god, I would have worn Gucci sandals and an Pucci-print robe.<BR><BR>Why does everyone flock to Italy at Easter? For the sales at Prada, Brioni, Canali, Ferragamo, and JP Tod, silly. You are thutch a thilly rabbit.

Am I being prompted to jump into the fray? Or did someone top this for my benefit so that I might enjoy reading it? Just curious. But thanks, admirer. (I think)
