Wolves in Germany

I guess for the past few years, there have been sightings of wolf packs in E. Germany. Just wanted folks to know how great this is since its been over 150 years since the last wolf was shot in Bavaria that wolves have returned to the land of the Brothers Grimm. I hope they thrive again and live in peace with man.

And on a related note, the first wolverine sighting in Michigan in almost 200 years occurred sometime in te past month.

Best wishes,

I agree, it's great. I hope the population thrives there in Germany.

I'm pretty excited about the possibility of encountering wolves when we do some driving in Romania this fall. There's been a large carnivore project in Zarnesti, in the mountains outside of Brasov for a few years until recently, involving several wolf packs as well as populations of bears and lynx. Should be an interesting drive, even if we don't get lucky and spot some wildlife ourselves.

Since you seem interesting in wolves:

Well, considering that the Wolves try to avoid relegation from the Premier League, there's a fat chance of their playing in Germany within the next few years...

Interesting post. Right today there is an article in a regional newspaper in Dresden on that.

Especially in the Oberlausitz (East of Dresden toward the border to Poland) there were a lot of wolves seen. The administration of Saxony protects the wolves, but some hunters do the opposite ... like you I am glad the wolves are back.

I understand that there is a wolf reintroduction project in the works for the Adirondacks - so we may have wolves back in New York again soon - I hope.
