Hi, I've noticed you haven't got a lot of responses. I
haven't been to Ambergris Caye yet, but wil most likely
be there in June, if you check back with me in August, I can
tell you of my experiences. I have been doing extensive
reading on Belize, I don't know the degree of change since you were last there, but I gather that this caye is
increasingly becoming a more popular vacation destination. In result, it is the most expensive of all the
cayes and is more tourist and resort oriented than its sister
island Caye Caulker. Comments that I've heard are that
"Caye Caulker is the way Ambergris used to be." So if
money is at all a concern or if you want a less resort/touristy conscious island, you might want to check
into Caye Caulker. Caye Caulker is also increasingly
becoming more popular with tourists, it has all that Ambergris has to offer, just on a smaller scale. Hope you
have a great trip!.

Dear Kathy and Caresse: I just returned from Ambergris Caye last week and had a wonderful time there. It was actually the first vacation I've taken in almost 12 years, so it took some time for me to unwind. Actually, my parents were also there in 1997 and found the area very relaxing. The area is very popular with scuba divers and fisherman, but is just as popular with those simply looking to relax on the beaches or snorkel off the reef. The only problem we encountered was that there was a constant strong wind, which made for somewhat choppy seas (my parents were in Belize in April, 1997, and there was hardly a breeze at that time). Apparently, March is still the dry season and the trade winds shift in April (or so I was told). Either way, I think you'll have a great time there. The little town of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye has only about ten square blocks to it, but is interesting nevertheless. The people of Belize are warm and caring, and are willing to help out in any way they can. Please feel free to E-mail me with any other requests for information you may have.

You may have a problem with that. You are talking about two different countries that have strict rules about automobiles coming in and out across the borders. For the trouble, you may be better off either taking a bus from Cancun or flying. There are lots of opportunities for both. There are a number of rental agencies at the Belize international airport (Goldson) when you get there. Good luck!
