Anyone hire a driver/taxi just in and for Arenal?
We are looking to hire someone for the day in Arenal to drive us several different places. I know car rental is easy but my husband won't budge - he will not rent, so while I get that that is a great option it is not for us.
Does anyone know someone we can hire for the day or a taxi person to hire?
About how much will it cost? We would probably need him between 10a-8:30p. It won't be constant driving because say for example he would drop us at our zip line and pick us up say 2.5 hours later, etc...
Thanks.

Almost all of the tours include transportation to and from your hotel or La Fortuna. For example, you could go on a zipline tour in the morning with transportation from your hotel and ask them to drop you off in La Fortuna after the tour. Then you could eat lunch in town, pick up another activity with transporation from town and be dropped off at your hotel that evening. You just saved the $80 or so, that it would have cost you to have somebody wait around for you.

I agree; the tours will pick you up and drop you off. Taxis are very easy to get also - that's the route I would take.
We have a great driver if you want his name though - Carlos Bogarin. You can e-mail him at [email protected]. We got him through the Lost Iguana and have used him twice - very nice and realiable. He knows the La Fortuna area very well.

I visited Arenal without a rental car, and had no problems. All the main activities in Arenal are handled via tour companies that do hotel pickups and deliveries, e.g. ziplines, hiking tours, rafting trips, etc.
Taxi's are also very easy to get. If you need one, just ask your hotel to call one for you.

My husband won't rent a car either; we got a driver some months back while staying at the Jade Hotel and we have used him ever since....probably six times by now. He is reliable, honest, reasonable, friendly, speaks fairly OK English. His name is Martin Mora. His email is [email protected]. It is more than $80/day though to have someone take you where you want to go, when you want to, and wait for you. Probably more like $120/day plus his expenses, such as meals. But he pays gas, tolls, provides cold beverages. And I don't blame your husband for not renting; many roads are not well marked and tackling the steep roads can be difficult. We see lots of cars broken down.
