My husband and I like to go to the best restaurants when we travel. Can anyone recommend their favorite restaurants in both Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende. The concerige recommended Reforma 500, Monte Cristo, Pujol, Sud 777 and Guzina Oaxaca in Mexico City and La Posadita, La Parada, and Moxi in San Miguel.Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also, any must see or must do's in either place would be welcomed.

Some thoughts/suggestions:
Breakfast: La Parroquia, Posada Carmina, Media Narjana
Lunch: Hecho en Mexico, Posadita, Pegasso, La Frontera
Dinner (in addition to your other suggestions): Hecho En Mexico, Mi Casa (inside Instituto Allende).
Drinks: La Mezcaleria (white pepper infused cilantro & cucumber mezcal margaritas, kinda pricey tapas) rooftop terrace @ Rosewood Hotel, for cocktails & sunset.
Comments on the above: If you like live music with dinner, then Hecho en Mexico on Friday & Saturday is a must. Good consistent service, and a varied menu of Mexican comfort food, good salads and one of the better tortilla soups in town. La Frontera is a bit aways from centro and is an expat hangout, but the tex-mex lunches are really good and very reasonable.

I was not wowed by Pujol but perhaps that was because the chef was in New York at the time of my lunch there. Do you like very creative, very contemporary food?

Here are my comments from my last visit to DF; for the record, I have never heard of any of the concierge's other recommendations in Mexico City. Reforma 500 is in the Four Seasons and I usually stay away from hotel restaurants, although DulcePatria in Las Alcobas was lovely and you might like it a lot.

I'm not sure that one can pinpoint the "best" restaurants; a lot depends on the style that you like. I had a marvelous meal at El Hidalguense in Mexico City but I am not sure you would like it based on your query above, as it is not considered "one of the best" by tourists.

Baldone- Thanks for your recommnedations. I did figure out that it was San Miguel and not Mexico City!!!
ekscrunchy- Thanks for your input. We do like creative and contemporary food. The only reason we are eating at Reforma 500 is beacuse we are staying at the Four Seasons and the first day we get there we don't have a lot of time to eat as we are going to the Ballet so I fighured the hotel restaurant would save time.
