Biodegradable sunscreen (required at Xel-Ha)
I know that Xel-Ha requires your sunscreen to be biodegradable, but it's really expensive to buy at the park--does anyone know what brand they use and where to buy it cheaper ahead of time?

There are findings that the chemicals in sunscreen and also Deet can have harmful effects on reefs etc. Perhaps the so called " sunblock Nazis " are looking out for the best interests of the actual tourist attraction , d'ya think ??!!

My friend just back from there last week. She says you have to use the lotion supplied by the park. Don't know if she's correct but just thought I'd add that.
Whatever the cost, you would want to do what's best for the habitat there wouldn't you. I hear it's beautiful.

I've come across a good biodegradable sunscreen from All Terrain. The company's AquaSport SPF15 and SPF30 are biodegradable and won't cause eye sting if you get some in your eyes. they also have a KidSport SPF30. Check out www.allterrainco.com

You can always wear one the shirts known as rash guards. They are synthetic, fast-drying, and specially made with a factor 50 yarn. In my opinion, they are far better than T-shirts, as they dry quickly and give much better coverage for the neck and arms. You can google for them. One company I like is Coolibar: www.coolibar.com

i was at xel-ha this fall. they absolutely do require you to use their special sunscreen. it is available at the park entrance. it is no more than the good brands at home. if you come with something else they will ask you to hand it over for the day and give you a sample of theirs to use if you do not wish to just buy some (of course they return it when you leave). you will also find it at the entrance to yal-ku and x-caret. really its no big deal to just get some there. and then you don't have to take it risking lotion smoo on your clothing. xel-ha is a great place. we had a wonderful day and i advise the all-inlcusive ticket. you get dry towels all day and all the food and drinks you want including cocktails.
seriously mikemo this is an important ecologcial choice being made. why on earth would you insult these ppl in such an ugly manner. mexico's reef is in better shape than most in the world i think keeping it that way so others can enjoy what i did and the planet can be healthy is quite important.

Mexitan sunscreens really are the best. Their products are All Natural (most others claim to be, but aren't). They definitely are allowed at Xel-Ha. Website is www.mexitan.com. I use them all the time

Been to Mexico several times We have found that as long as the Suntan lotion bottle says Biodegradable it is usually accepted. You can buy it easily at on of the stores in the hotel zone or ride the Bus to Walmart. It is cheaper outside the parks.
