Costa Rica Hiking/WW rafting question
Hi. You guys really helped me when I was researching in the fall, and in leading me to Pat Hewitt. He did a great job putting together a vacation for a reasonable price! We leave in June and I am trying to get some clothes together...so here is my question:
We are zip-lining in Arenal, planning on taking a tour of MA and WW rafting the Pacuare...do we need hiking boots for MA? Or would rafting sandals(something like Keens I imagine) or tennis shoes work for the hiking? We won't use these much until our next vacation(we live in Indiana...beautiful, but not much rough hiking!), so don't want to overbuy and overpack!

I've only had one place that I couldn't wear my Keens H20 for hiking and that was at Tirimbina Rainforest Center. Bullet ants were on the trail, so anyone with any kind of open shoes had to put on rubber boots. I should have worn my tennis shoe/hiking shoes that day, have never taken hiking boots although DH drags them along on every trip. I think you are fine with tennis shoes and Keens.

In San Jose, we stayed at Grano de Oro for a night, and their restaurant had really good food. In Arenal, we liked El Novillo and La Choza de Laurel. In MA, Ronnie's Place/Mi Lugar, Cafe Agua Azul, Cafe Milagro, Barba Roja, and Salsipuedes.

knicola, Solomon Techs are also good; my husband has a pair of those. He likes them because they are waterproof but also enclosed, so you don't get little rocks and sticks or ants in your shoes.
