Costa Rica Hiking/WW rafting question

Hi. You guys really helped me when I was researching in the fall, and in leading me to Pat Hewitt. He did a great job putting together a vacation for a reasonable price! We leave in June and I am trying to get some clothes together...so here is my question:
We are zip-lining in Arenal, planning on taking a tour of MA and WW rafting the Pacuare...do we need hiking boots for MA? Or would rafting sandals(something like Keens I imagine) or tennis shoes work for the hiking? We won't use these much until our next vacation(we live in Indiana...beautiful, but not much rough hiking!), so don't want to overbuy and overpack!

We've been to CR a few times and have never bought hiking shoes. I wear running shoes on trails and Keen's for the beach or water.

keens and tennis shoes were fine in both arenal and MA. I would only bring hiking boots for serious hiking or back country.

I've done quite a bit of hiking in CR(although not long treacherous hikes) in my Keens and they work great. Get the type for water like Venice or H2O, for tromping through streams.

I've only had one place that I couldn't wear my Keens H20 for hiking and that was at Tirimbina Rainforest Center. Bullet ants were on the trail, so anyone with any kind of open shoes had to put on rubber boots. I should have worn my tennis shoe/hiking shoes that day, have never taken hiking boots although DH drags them along on every trip. I think you are fine with tennis shoes and Keens.

In San Jose, we stayed at Grano de Oro for a night, and their restaurant had really good food. In Arenal, we liked El Novillo and La Choza de Laurel. In MA, Ronnie's Place/Mi Lugar, Cafe Agua Azul, Cafe Milagro, Barba Roja, and Salsipuedes.

knicola, Solomon Techs are also good; my husband has a pair of those. He likes them because they are waterproof but also enclosed, so you don't get little rocks and sticks or ants in your shoes.

Pat is a travel agent that frequents this board; he has helped a lot of people who don't want to plan things on their own.
