Extreme/Adventure Trip - Costa Rica

Any recommendations for a tour company in Costa Rica (or another exciting place in the region) that can provide an intense, adventurous experience. I am thinking about taking 3-4 days for an adrenaline filled time.

THANKS VERY MUCH!

In February a group of four of us went to the Arenal Volcano area. I can't recommend Hotel Los Lagos enough, especially for the price. We were also looking for extreme adventure and found great information at www.arenal.net, click on tours. The Canyoneering was great and ziplines at Arenal Paraiso are the best. If you're into hard core hiking try the rainforest hike to Cerro Chato. It's pretty extreme and you need to be in great shape (2 hours up, 3 hours down). Have a great time!

Sorry, I should add that we booked these tours on our own. This isn't a company that sets you up with a guide for four days...

I think a lot of CR falls under the "intense, adventurous" category. What types of activites are you looking for? What type of year & budget? Arenal comes to mind as you don't have much time, it is relatively close to SJO and there is plenty to do there.

I am thinking about going in June or July. Budget is not real important, but would like to keep it reasonable. As far as activities, anything that is active, wild, or even crazy. I am very athletic and those in my party are as well, so I would like to do things that are relatively demanding.

Other websites to consider...

Rafting the Pacaure River and staying overnight in the rainforest jungle (1-3 days with hiking on the extra days) We used this company and loved it http://www.riostropicales.com/

Mountain Biking in the Arenal Volcano area - suggest a custom single track with http://www.bikearenal.com/ This area you can do the canyoneering as mentioned above.

Add to any of the above is bungee jumping just outside of San Jose area
http://www.bungee.co.cr/ which fits my definition of crazy adrenaline.

Also I would email the folks at adventure racing Costa Rica - they have training courses for their annual Coast-to-Coast adventure race http://www.adventureracingcostarica.com/aboutus.html who knows you might get hooked and come back for the actual race.

Have Fun!
