The entrance fee for Manuel Antonio park is actually $7 only. The $35 is what tour companies like Iguana Tours charge for transportation, guide, and a fruit snack. Send Iguana an email and inquire about discounts; they do have a website.
I can't recall if MA park is where I saw guides for hire at the entrance. If you can get them at the park itself, you could probably talk price with the guide.
