Chad, do a search on this website for Brazil only in latin America and you will find a wealth of info from the past previous months. Also check out website www.blameitonrio4travel.com. For hotels and click on Rio de Janiero and then click on single mans guide for info if you are going alone.

Hi Chad,
I am carioca (person who was born in Rio de Janeiro) and always lived in Rio.
In five days you can go to the turistic spots such as Corcovado and Sugar Loaf. If you are here on a Sunday go for a walk on the beach. The streets by the beaches are closed for the cars and people go biking, skating, jogging, etc. Still on sunday go to Feira Hippie in Ipanema, a very nice and cheap street market to buy some souvenirs .Go to a churrascaria (barbecue /all you can eat), a must-go for turists and cariocas as well. On Saturday, try the Caesars Park Hotel restaurant for lunch and have feijoada (very typical dish made of black beans - I love it). You can go shopping, the exchange rates are very attractive (US$ 1,00 = R$ 2,50). Evelyn seems to have a lot of good advices, from a real tourist perspective . Hope you like it and return many times!
