help with hotels in costa rica
Hi everyone,
I am going to Costa Rica next week and still have yet to book any hotels...so in desperate need of your help!! The plan is to spend three nights in the arenal volcano area and three nights in manuel antonio and one night in San Jose. So far, in arenal, I've been looking at arenal paraiso and the lost iguana. In manuel antonio Costa verde, hotel plinio or la mansion. What we're looking for in a hotel is a nice place with a fairly nice pool/jacuzzi, clean and nice staff. We don't need to be staying at the high end resort type of place and would definitely like to feel some of the local flare where we stay. In addition, we would like to spend 100 or less per night. Anyone with suggestions I would greatly appreciate it! THanks so much!

For Manuel Antonio Costa Verde is a great choice . ( La Mansion is nice , but it is more high end ) Plinios is a great little place , not fancy , but clean and cute . Villas Nicolas , Mango Moon , La Posada Jungle , Didis B&B , try looking on www.maqbeach.com

Arenal Spring Resort is new and has great prices right now. Someone else (see today's post) just returned and said it was nice. We'll be there next week. www.hotelarenalsprings.com

This summer I stayed at Lost Iguana and Hotel Plino...
Lost Iguana is certainly luxury and way more than $100 bucks a night especially when you eat there (wonderful food, free breakfast). I loved LI and will go back.
I did not like Manuel Antonio for personal reasons but Hotel Plino was great! The owner, Hans I think... Was super and always willing to help. He booked us a great horse back riding trip and we were the only two on it.
The room rate was good too, much cheaper than LI and certainly under 100 bucks... I think around 60 a night. We had one of the three story rooms and it was so cool!!! The jungle house was not all it had been built up to be so we opted for the 3 level rooms. Ok two main levels and an observation deck. Plenty of room for a family of four.
The food at Plino was also delicious... Tended to have an Asian flair...
The one downside to Plino is that it is right on the main road so when traffic starts in the early morning you can hear it. But I woke with the sun anyway and the huge screened wall makes it impossible to avoid the sun. So it did tend to have noise in the mornings.
The pool was nice, no hot tub. The little bar and cafe next to the pool made good drinks.
I saw a green dart frog there. Way cool!
So I love both places but both are completely different.
Oh and for comparrison, a daquri cost me 4 bucks at plino and 12 bucks US at La Mansion. Plino also offered a much better exchange rate.
