Iberostar Paraiso
I am interesting in going to Mexico in December for a relaxing holiday. My boyfriend has never been out of the country - or any resort like place. However, he loves to golf and has expressed extreme interest in going to a beachy destination.
We're both mid/late20's. He's not too adventurous in any sense.... food, atmosphere... For example: I suggested a chartered sailing trip through the BVI - but that was too big of a leap for him I guess as his first question was about television... (I know, I know- its ridiculous, but I'm trying to make it work!)
I know there are several Iberostar Paraiso resorts, but I figure this is a good stepping stone for him since its far away, but still somewhat Americanized? I've never been to this area, but am looking for any help/advice.
We both love to golf, and love to be at the beach or somewhere with a great pool. I also love to snorkel and am determined to get him into that as well. Like I said, we're in our mid/late 20s and figured that all inclusive would be the most cost effective.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm unfamiliar with most AIs, but do you know if there's a golf course at this resort? If not, you may want to choose a resort with an on-site golf course. The first that comes to mind is the Fairmont at MayaKoba.

WE atayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar last December and loved it. The resort is huge. They have a great beach and a fantastic pool that wanders through most of the resort.
They have shows every night, activities throughout the day, a disco, Commercial Center, and a wonderful golf course.
Go to this site for great information:

The Iberostar Paraiso resort consists of the Beach and Del Mar which share all facilities. Then there are the Lindo and Maya which share MOST facilities and also have use of the Del Mar and Beach facilities. The Maya is the most expensive and has two restaurants and a couple small private pools that are exclusively for them. Other than that, Lindo guests have full use of the Maya.
Guests of the Del Mar and Beach will NOT be served drinks or food at the Lindo and Maya.
At the Del Mar and Beach you are guaranteed three ala carte dinner reservations for a week's stay. At the Lindo and Maya, you can eat ala carte every night of your stay.
We were perfectly happy at the Del Mar and didn't feel we were missing anything by not being able to get food or drink at the Lindo or Maya. We did spend some time on that side of the resort, we just didn't get served there.
The Commercial Center which also has some food (taco place, hamburger place, tapas, and ice cream and crepe place0 is for the use of all of the Paraiso resort guests.
They have also just opened the IB Paraiso Grand which is adults only and is the top of the line.

Personally, I think he is crazy for not wanting to bareboat in the BVI's. I've traveled to many islands and stayed at many exclusive (but small) resorts and would love to bareboat in the bvi's again. I've been 3 times and can't wait to do it again. Anyhoo...get him onboard with the bareboat thing and until then get him out of the country to explore a bit. Have fun whatever you choose.

Beachbum2- I completely agree with you!! I don't know what his problem is, but I'm trying to be patient and open his eyes - slowly.
The poor guy had never left the east coast until he came with me for Thanksgiving to Arizona and now he wants to live there - or at least can't wait to go back. He'll come around... but until then, he's a little difficult.
Thanks for all of this information!!
