Iguazu Falls, Mendoza or Patagonia?
Hi All - I will be taking a trip to Buenos Aires in early October. Planning to be in Buenos Aires for 4 days, and may have an additional 4 days that I can add on for a side trip. With this in mind, which location would you choose - Iguazu Falls, Mendoza or Patagonia. Patagonia seems most interesting to me, but not sure if it's feasible to experience this area with only 4 days. Any suggestions? Otherwise, which would you choose, Iguazu or Mendoza? Tough choice...I do love wine, especially if enjoyed in beautiful scenery, but it seems like Iguazu is a more popular destination...Any advice?

We have been to Chile's Patagonia and also to Iguazu Falls. Both places are simply amazing. The scenery is vastly different. The snow, glaciers, harsh winds and mountains of Patagonia are fantastic but you will need a car. The roads are rough---think of a washboard and dust will get into your car and suitcases. Without a car, Patagonia is not manageable unless you are driven about by someone. At Iguazu we stayed at the Sheraton and went for the falls view room (we used Buenos Aires travel agent www.wowargentina.com for flights and hotel). You unpack once and you do not need a car. The falls are breath-taking and for us, the falls were an emotional experience.
But then, so was Patagonia. However----with just four days, head to the falls and return for Patagonia when you have more time.

You could easily fly from BA to Bariloche (northern Patagonia) and spend 4 days seeing the sites. Here are some activities you could partake in.

My vote would be for Iguazu (which is what we did in April). We also stayed at the Sheraton, but we decided to go with a jungle view room (which had great sunsets) since most of the day we were out and about and the falls aren't lit up at night ! That being said, when I go back to Argentina I want to hit Bariloche which sounds terrific also. Such a dilemma!

You don't need four days for Iguazu. We arrived late afternoon on a Tuesday and left Thursday morning--two nights and a day and a half. That was plenty, although you might take more time if you plan to go to the Brazil side. We stayed at the Sheraton, and got our airline tickets after we arrived in BsAs. Iguazu was beautiful and unique. Plenty of climbing/walking/hiking although not particularly difficult.
Mendoza was great, too, if you like wine. It is so clean and the people are really nice and the food is great. We were there in July and the Andes were covered in snow and beautiful. The winery tours were interesting--tasing was enjoyable--but in a lots of ways, the wine experience really is not all that different from Napa.

My vote would be for 2 or 3 days in Iguazu and spend the extra day or two in BA. It is a gorgeous city with lots to see and do. Mendoza is nice, but Iguazu is nothing like you will experience anywhere else in the world. Be sure to get to the Brazilian side too. I haven't been to Patagonia, but it sounds like more than 4 days would be needed there.

Absolutely get to both sides of Iguazu. I would say that two full days should do it - one for each side. And adding an extra day in BA can't hurt at all. We were there four days and I wished we had an additional day or two.
