Is August a bad time to travel to Mexico?
I am getting married this August and heading to Hawaii for my honeymoon. I am thinking of surprising my fiance NEXT Aug. with a 1st anniversary trip, and I am just starting to look into different places. One place I'm looking at is Puerto Vallarta. (I have been to Cancun one while in college, he has never been to Mexico.)
Is Aug. a bad time weather-wise to travel to the Pacific Coast? Would the Mayan Riveria be a better spot that time of year? We are from the Boston area, so heat and humidity are things we are used to, but is this a very rainy time of year? Thanks for your help!

I went to PV last August, and it was very hot, but still, all in all, very enjoyable.
It rained a couple of times, but not for very long, and it never interfered with our trip.
We did find the heat made us lazy; we ended up not going on a jungle tour because it would've been just too warm.
But for laying on the beach at the Camino Real hotel, and a fun trip to charming Sayulita, we really enjoyed it! I'd go again in August.

Frankie: Thank you for your reply! How hot was it approx. -- 85, 90, 95? Also, with the rain, does it rain all day in August, or are they just quick tropical showers and then the sun comes out again? Thanks! (And thank you for your suggestions, I will check them out!)

Hi!
I'd guess midday it was around 90 degrees, a few more on the last 2 days we were there...the rain never seemed to last more than an hour, and the storms were fun to watch! (we don't get much weather in southern california!)
There are some wonderful restaurants in PV,(check restaurant reviews on Fodors) and the restaurant at the Camino Real hotel was good, too.
Sayulita is worth a day trip! It's a wonderful little "surfy" town with a bohemian vibe. We rode horses on the beach and passed some wonderful looking villas - I'd like to spend more time there someday. We rented a car at the hotel and drove there...

Question for frankie who went to PV in August:
We are staying in a condo just uphill from Camino Real, early July. The main living areas are not walled in (and no AC of course).
Did you experience a problem with mosquitos? This place looks amazing, but the only retreat from mosquitos is in bed under the netting. If a serious problem, we are considering Camino Real (which will be a Dreams resort by then)

We spent a week in PV last August and had a wonderful time. It was a bit hot and muggy during the afternoon, but that is when we would lounge around the pool bar. We did a jungle tour one morning. It was hot, but not unbearable by any means. We also did a sunset cruise one evening and the weather was perfect. It rained briefly a couple afternoons, but normally while we were showering for dinner anyway. The rains actually cooled things off a bit and were quite nice.
