IXTAPA
We are planning to go to Ixtapa in February. Which is the best hotel? We are considering Las Brisas or Melia Azul Ixtapa. Are there any favorite restaurants? What are the best things to do in the area, including side trips? What about Zihuatanejo?

Hi ruth

We stayed at the Las Brisas 10-5-02 to 10-11-02. Enjoyed it very much. Although it was expensive. It was our 1st time in Ixtapa. Food at Las Brisas was very good. We also ate at La Pearl (sp.?) on La Ropa beach in Zihua. Nice place right on the beach. On the flight home we spoke to some honeymooners who stayed at Melia Azul and they were not happy campers. Las Brisas is built on a hillside and all the stairs can be a problem if you have mobility problems. You might try asking your questions here. http://www.zihuatanejo.net/wwwboard/ The people there are very helpful.

Hi! I have been to Ixtapa 4 times have always stayed at the Dorado Pacifico, it is right on the beach, I like it, although this Feb. I'm going all inclusive at the Presidente, just for something different. I would make sure I got a motel in the strip area, so you can just walk right out to the ocean or across the street for shopping. Look at the maps on the internet under Ixtapa
or ask your travel agent as they have books with maps in them. Good Luck

I also stayed at the Dorado Pacifico with a small group of friends and it was excellent. The pool area including food and beverage service was excellent, the beach is just a few steps away, shopping, resurants were all close or the location was central for inexpensive cab rides. There are two resturants (the names escape me) located on the bluffs not far from the Dorado that have first class service, good food, and tremendous sunset views. The dining at the many establishments in the marina in "Z" is also very good. While at the marina you must check out the comical piano bar in the adjacent tower. The only thing we could not find was good dancing at night. The music in clubs is primarily what I call techno-thump. Maybe at 40-years old I'm already too old to know what is cool. Ixtapa is very clean and nice. "Z" is less desirable but has some nice dining on the beach.

Enjoy.

I much prefer Zihuatanejo to Ixtapa. Ixtapa was built just as a resort, where Zihuatanejo was a town before tourists came to visit. It seems much more charming, much less sterile. Plus the waves were huge in Ixtapa and I don't think I'd want to swim in the ocean there. Much calmer in Zihuatanejo. It's been a few years, but there were several good restaurants in Zihuatanejo. We went to Isla Ixtapa a couple of time to snorkel, as well as Playa las Gatas in Zihuatanejo.
