Malpais/Santa Teresa
I'm wondering if anyone has stayed at Blue Jay Lodge, The Place (aka Surf the Place), or Luz de Vida in this area. My boyfriend and I are looking for a relatively quiet, nice place to stay that is close to the main part of "town". Any info about these places would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The Place would be your best location. It is close to what little strip of town there is! Not much going on in the vicinity of BlueJay and Luz de Vida. But they aren't that far away. Just wouldn't want to be hiking from one place to another at night.

Thanks shillmac! Have you stayed at The Place before? From their website it's hard to tell if they have a pool or not. Do you know how far the walk is to El Carmen? I'm a surfer and my boyfriend is not (though he may take a lesson in Malpais) - I'm concerned that the beaches might not be suitable for swimming in this area. Any thoughts on this?

This website shows the proximity of El Carmen to The Place. Hope it helps.
We have not stayed there and have not been on the property. Can you e-mail them and ask about a pool?
We stayed to the right of El Cruz (the road that comes into town and splits left for MalPais and right for Santa Teresa). We didn't get out in the water too far and didn't spend much time in it at all, but we did do a little body surfing. I was unaware that parts were unsuitable for swimming--if that is the case, no one mentioned it to us! It does pay to check, however, because the Costa Rican coasts are famous for riptides. Usually there are signs.

I had asked about Blue Jay and The Place a few months back. I found a couple folks who have stayed at Blue Jay Lodge and read some helpful reviews on a couple other sites. I believe Tripadvisor. I've yet to find anyone who has stayed at The Place. We currently have reserverations at Milarepa but are thinking of changing to The Place to save money and be closer to the action. I will look and see if I can find some of my old posts.

Here is my original post about these two hotels. No reviews of either but a good website is linked where I saw more pictures of Blue Jay.
If you find anymore information on either, please let us know. I'd love to find someone who has seen or stayed at The Place.
