Mexico City over Christmas - which neighborhood? Christmas activities?

Hello brilliant Fodorites:

We are traveling to Mexico City over Christmas with our family and considering either a historic hotel in the Centro Historico or a condo rental in one of the nearby residential neighborhoods (Polanco, Condesa, Roma).

We will be in Mexico City for 6 nights in total with kids and grandparents.

Any ideas about potential Christmas-related activities would also be welcome! I did find a couple of articles as shown below.

Thanks, in advance.
