Mexico Hotel Help

Would love to stay at Royal Hideaway but really looking for something cheaper since we just came home from Italy.

Looking for 5 nights or so in Mexico. Found good deals at Riu Hotels including

in RM/PlayCar.:

Rui Palace Riviera Maya
Riu Palace Mexico
Puia Playacar

in Cancun:
Riu Cancun
Riu Palace Cancun

Any adivce on either location? Want the nicer of all.. beaches, atmosphere and all that jazz.....

Thanks!!

you might have better luck posting this on the tripadvisor forum. Lots of all inclusive fans there.
All I can say is that from the outside, both the Riu Palace Las Americas in Cancun and the Riu Palace Mexico look very nice, but haven't been in. They are a little more upscale than the Riu Cancun or Playacar.
Have you checked out the new Royal Cancun? Looks nice, it had some really great opening rates.

We've stayed at the RIU Tropical Bay in Jamaica. It was a very nice hotel. However, the food was pretty bad and the atmosphere was too partyish for us. We experienced large, loud, obnoxious groups that dominated the staff. It's also family friendly, so we didn't care for that either. Based on that experience, I wouldn't consider another RIU unless they made the hotel adults only.

I agree, check out the Royal Cancun. We're staying at their sister resort the Royal Playa del Carmen in September. Adults only and lots of nice amentities. We got a great price.

My cousin stayed at the Riu Palace in Riviera Maya and she loved it. Only problem I would have a hard time having to make dinner reservations by 8:00 in the morning having to run down and wait in line to have dinner in a a la carte restaurant. If you can handle that then I would say try the one in Riviera Maya

I agree, Butsey. Why they'd make you make rez for dinner at 8am in the morning on your vacation is beyond me.
Just one more reason I've never stayed at an all inclusive!

I agree also. We had to stand in line at 11am in order to make reservations for the ala cart resturants. Reservatiions could only be made for that night only. Could not make reservations for another night or for the whole week. People started lining up about 10am. We were only on the resort 2 days at 11am to actually make reservations, so got stuck at the buffet the rest of the time.

That's one of the reasons why we picked the Royal Playa del Carmen. No reservations at any of the ala cart resturants. That inlcudes their other sister property across the street.

Well Frankie not all AIs are like that. The good ones are all ala carte with no reservations required. Just go put your name on the list, get a beeper, and go have a cocktail while you wait. Just like going out to dine at home. You find that early morning reservation hoo-hoo at the cheaper places not at the good ones.

I would stay at the Royal Playa Del Carmen also before the RIUīs and Iīve stayed at the RIU Palace Mexico, RIU Yucatan and RIU Tequila. If I were to do an AI again that is which I donīt anymore. Went for a quick walk through the hotel La Tortuga the other night just to see how they had redone the pool area and it is absolutely gorgeous. I know thatīs not on your list because itīs not an AI but it is very nice and right in town.
