Mexico or Caribbean???

Hello all -

I'm sorry to post a rather vague question, but I'm not terribly familiar with either Mexico or the Caribbean and am in need of your guidance!

My fiancee and I are looking to take a trip (4 or 5 days) to the Caribeean or Mexico in November. Nice beaches, good food, history/culture, and a little nightlife are important to us (not discos and late-night clubs, but at least a place or two to listen to some local music and meet local folks past sundown). Accomodations don't need to be 5 star, but definitely comfortable.

I've been to the Ritz Carlton in Puerto Rico and liked it but found the beach to be too steep and the water quite rough. I was also fortunate enough to stay at Caneel Bay last December and loved it, but I think that it is just a little too laid back for what we want for this vacation (and probably a but pricier too!). Never been to Mexico.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks to all -
AGF

Why not try both you can have Mexico and the Caribbean. There is Cancun not much culture, there is the Riviera Maya where you can be close to The Mayan Ruins The beach is wonderful and you have the beautiful Caribbean Sea. I love Mexico the people are wonderful and it's not expensive compared to the other Caribbean Islands. Try looking on this web site I am sure you can find some more info. If I were you I would also think about Playa Del Carmen they have a lot to offer and you can also get to the Ruins for a day trip. I have heard the Royal Hideway which is Adults only is a wonderful all inclusive. Good Luck & hope you find what you are looking for. November is a good time to go not too crowded

I just got back from Playa Del Carmen (about 40 minutes south of Cancun - across from Cozumel) and it was wonderful! There was just about everything you described - culture, fun, gorgeous turquoise water, good food, good margaritas. It was great. We rented a condo right on the beach with about a 2 minute walk to town. We did a tour to a Mayan village with no electricity where the Mayan women cook for you. It also had a tour of the ruins at Coba. We went to town shopping, eating, etc. every night. It was really fun. And the water was the prettiest I've seen anywhere. An unbelievable shade of turquoise and blue.(and I've been to the carribean, hawaii, etc.)

If you have any questions let me know!

Theresa

Mexico would be your best vacation bet. You get warm weather, beautiful beaches, great hotels, fantastic turquoise blue water, culture, etc...just about everything you would need or want in a vacation and for a lot less money than a Bahama, Jamaica or other Caribbean destinations.

Many thanks for the information! I've read good things about the Royal Hideaway on this site as well. Theresa, I'm wondering if you have any other hotel/resort recommendations from your recent visit?

Thanks again!
