Mexico Pacific side destinations

For those who have been to several Mexico Pacific side destinations, which is your choice? We've only been to Ixtapa, about (eeekkkk!!!) 20 years ago. Are considering PV, Manzanillo, Huatlco, Acapulco, Mazatlon, Cabo or others. Looking for a relaxing beach vacation, somewhat inexpensive, and good food would be a bonus. We usually don't do beach vacations, but thought we'd give it a try after so many years of other destinations. Thanks for any/all information.

Puerto Vallarta is beautiful, but I haven't been to any of the others you mention... because I keep returning to PV.

Been to PV, Manzanillo, Acapulco and Mazatlan of those you mentioned. Depends on what you like to do on your beach vacation - just lay in the sun and read/sleep, go for walks. Travel to ruins, see architecture, get immersed in history? Pam

My order of preference of Pacific Coast towns would be the following:

1. Zihuatanejo
2. Sayulita
3. P.V.
4. Hualtulco

Way way down the list:
Ixtapa
Acapulco

Off the list completely:
Cabo

Have never been to Manzanillo nor Mazatlan.

I don't know if it's just me, but I wouldn't put Sayulita on the list -- went there 3 years ago, and thought it was completely charming, and then back again last year, and it felt much seedier, more discovered or something. It was a disappointment.
I'd go to PV, & avoid the Cabo area.
Zihua sounds great too.

Wow, that's too bad about Sayulita. We were there 3 or 4 years ago as well, and really enjoyed it. Mind you, part of it was our accommodation which was wonderful.

It looks like most of the places you're considering are resort locations. We're going to Puerto Escondido this year - we were also there last year, first time in about 12 years. I know it gets mixed reviews from people, but we really enjoyed it.

Zihuatanejo might appeal to you - right next to Ixtapa, but much nicer (mind you, the only time I was there was in 1999, so a few years ago). I went to Puerto Vallarta back in the early 80's. We went back again the same year we went to Sayulita and I didn't care for it nearly as much, but lots of people love it.

If you want to go to the Baja... I would choose San Jose del Cabo, Todos Santos and/or La Paz over Cabo San Lucas.

Acapulco offers a wide variety of choices - good beaches, great food, inexpensive (if that's what you're looking for) - and it's easy to get to by air.
