It is more convenient to fly into Cancun to stay in Playa because you just take a taxi or bus or collectivo 45 minutes down the road, whereas you have to take the taxi from the airport at Coz down to the ferry dock, wait for the ferry, mess with your luggage and then the 45 minute ferry to Playa - which can be rough.

You CAN do it that way, it is just not as easy.

The best place on Coz to stay is the Intercontinental Presidente.

Thanks for info. How much is ferry?? Trying to decided if we should stay in Cozumel instead since we can't fly free into Cancun. Wanted to stay in Playa. Is the beach nice at that hotel in Coz? I need a nice, white sand beach with no rocks!

The beach in front of the Presidente is very nice. There is great snorkeling right from shore.

The ferry is about $7 one way.

Playa is a lot of fun, and you can find very good prices on hotels there.

How long are you going for?

If going for more than a week, I would split it between the two.

I've spent a lot of time in both, and they are quite different from one another.

Playa has a really pretty beach, but it's tough to swim, and there's little snorkeling.

Cozumel has some very nice beaches and amazing snorkeling.

What is most important to you in your vacation?

PDC has a more international or Euro feel - there is toplessness - Coz is more Americanized and touristy.

Both are a lot of fun and you would not go wrong with either.

Just returned from Playa and Cozumel. Flew into Cozumel because that's where we could get mileage tickets. Took the ferry over to Playa and stayed 3 nights at Las Palapas, then took the ferry back to Cozumel and stayed at El Presidente for the rest of the week. Taking the ferry to Playa was easy -- and it's only about a 20 minute ride. If I did it over again, I would probably stay in Playa the whole time, or maybe move just for the last night. I preferred the beach in Playa -- sandy, clear, blue. I'm not a diver or a snorkler, which I believe are the main attractions in Cozumel. And Playa has so many wonderful restaurants, and is easy to get around. Also, I hear immigration is easier in Cozumel (took us about 10 minutes, and it was Easter week!) -- another good reason to skip the Cancun airport. Good Luck!
