It's owned / managed by the family who also have Casa de los Sabores (the B&B where we stayed) and another one (can't remember the name). Breakfasts are wonderful. They also own a restaurant, La Olla, and it might be next door to Las Bugambilias. The chef at La Olla givdes cooking classes.
We were really pleased with our B&B, and I'm sure that Las Bugambilias would be a great choice as well.
Rick Bayless, a well known chef from Chicago, highly recommends it.

We stayed here for a full week about two years ago and absolutely loved it. The breakfasts are amazing! Location is great too. I plan on staying there again next time we return to Oaxaca. We also stayed one last night at their other B&B (because Las Bugambillas was closing for renovations)and that was lovely too, although we didn't find the location as convenient.

I recently returned (March '05)from a wonderful week at Las Bugambilias. I had also spent a week there in November '03. It is a fantastic place to stay while in Oaxaca!! The staff and the Cabrera family are wonderful; you feel as though you are a part of the family and Las Bug. becomes your Oaxacan home. It is a beautiful home, filled with local art and modern conveniences-including computer access for those who insist on staying connected while on vacation. There is a different, delicious breakfast each morning presented in the dining room or outside in the patio area. La Olla, the restaurant run by Pilar Cabrera who also runs La Casa de los Sabores, is in the front part of Las Bugambilias-very convenient!! La Olla has a roof top patio that is wonderful for enjoying the sunsets. I would not stay anywhere else in Oaxaca. The family will arrange transportation and/or guides to the local pueblos. My first visit to Oaxaca and Las Bugambilias was during the time of los dias de los muertos; the family had a wonderful schedule of activities which allowed us to respectfully participate in that special time. Our March '05 trip was during Semana Santa and again the family was very helpful in guiding us toward special activities that were not listed in the guide books. I was searching for art work by a particular Oaxacan artist and Aurora Cabrera, the innkeeper, made special efforts to locate a piece by this artist-something the local galleries had not be able or willing to do-and it was exactly what I was looking for. How many places go to those lengths for their guests?? As you can see, I can't say enough good things about Las Bugambilias!! The office personnel are wonderful about quick and informative email contact so that all your arrangements can be made before leaving your country of origin. Stay there; you will not regret it. Let me know if you would like more information!!

One thing I forgot to mention about Las Bugambilias is the great location. It is located just two short blocks from the pedestrian corridors/streets and from the magnificent Santo Domingo church. The Zocalo is within easy, pleasant walking distance. We walked to the Zocalo every evening and felt very safe walking home. I like being close enough to the heart of the city without being right in the middle of it when I am ready to go to sleep!! Another fun, home-like touch is Tigre, the family cat.

Hi I agree with jerichobell and jczinn, great place, we stayed there in 2003, had a beautiful renovated room, with a very nice bathroom. Location is great a block from the most famous hotel in Oaxaca, we had some meals in La Olla which were excellent. The family puts together a great beautifully decorated breakfast table, with wonderful food.
They are extremely helpful and warm.
I would return anytime. rooms vary I understand, we took one of the more expensive ones, but difference is very little, so if you can take the best rooms, they are indeed nice. Also phone calls to the US are extremely cheap which is something difficult tofind in Mexico. Good luck.BUena suerte.

We stayed at the Casa de los Sabores owned by the same folks and the Las Bugambilias. We just loved it. Very traditional colonial Mexico. The Las Bugambilias is frequented by and caters to tour groups. The Casa de los Sabores is small (4 - 5 rooms) with wonderful made-to-order breakfasts; easy walk to zocolo; quiet; charming hosts. Happy travels.
