We are getting married Aug 22, want to go on honeymoon adventure, Belize looks good, but so does Costa Rica and Mexico. Any suggestions?

We had our first trip to Costa Rica in March and loved it. You can get first class accomodations for the price of a cheap motel in San Francisco. We stayed at Villa Caletas in Punta Leone (the ultimate in posh!) Also Si Como No in Manuel Antonio is all that and more, and Tabacon Hot Springs at the foot of the Volcano Arenal is a must.

Don't know if you really want an adventure for your honeymoon, but Belize was wonderful to me Dec/Jan. Not only was the diving sublime, the Cayo has lots to offer in the way of jungles, Mayan ruins, etc. You can drink the water (the local beer, Belikan is great too) eat the food (lobster dinners with all the extras about $7.us) and assuming english is your first language, they speak yours to boot. Nothing 5star, but the populace is extremely friendly and helpful. Depends on what you're after. Costa Rica is cheaper, Mexico is not as safe unless you want to carry everything you own around with you 24 hours a day. Placencia was my favorite town/village, with lots of local color and characters. Good luck, and email me if you'd like to know anything else.

thanks for the response, please, tell me more---what about the bugs, sand fleas, that I keep hearing about in Belize, and why are the Cayo lodges so expensive? The more I research the more I'm leaning toward CR...but Belize is attractive because of snorleling, Mayan ruins, etc. punta rock, English spoken---still researching ...tell me more

Definitely Belize!!! Placencia is the best... small - remote - get away from it all! Not touristy... if you want that then go to San Pedro.
