Malta- the quietest and prettiest spots?
I know Malta is small, popular and developed. We are looking at maybe 7 nights before going to visit family in Italy. This would be late July- I know- a popular time. Any beautiful beaches you could recommend? We are interested in snorkeling and paddle boarding. Any quietish areas you could recommend? We will have a car. We are looking at Airbnb’s.

Malta isn't known for it's beaches. The ones that there are, eg. Mellieha, Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffiena Bay, and Paradise Bay are all in the north of Malta and will be packed.
St Peter's Pool or Ghar Lapsi in the south might be a better bet.
In summer Malta is vastly overpopulated for a tiny Island 17 x 9 miles. Getting round even by car, and parking, will be an endurance test.
Get hold of the latest edition of the Lonely Planet guidebook to Malta and Gozo. Well worth the expense, 190 pages of very useful info.

Gozo is much quieter than Malta, and there is much more to see on Malta.
With the collapse of the Azure window on Gozo a few years ago I expect it's even quieter now than it used to be.
If you are bike riders than consider renting a MTB for a day on Gozo - there are several rental shops right near the ferry. You can essentially circle the island on roads and see places few tourists travel. There is also a walking path around the island (not suitable for biking).

We loved Malta, had about 10 nights on Malta and 5 nights on Gozo. Also visited Sicily on that trip. Malta is not a place I'd go to for the beaches but we're Australian and I think have the best beaches in the world. Malta's history and architecture were the things we loved the most. The people were also very friendly which was great.
We used the Lonely Planet Malta guide too, it was really useful.
