About the same distance to Bariloche city , maybe a little more. Although expensive dónt miss to visit the Llao LLao Hotel, and the Sunday brunches !!
As for staying the point is : if theres little or no snow in sept. there no reason to stay in El Cerro , most of the activity
is in Bariloche sorroundings ( Seven Lakes circuits and others)

santiago, actually we will be staying at llao llao for a few days but we´d like to sky somewhere.
Is chile a safer option to ski so late in september? Vale Nevado?
I wished I had only this kind of problems!

You may or may not have good snow in Bariloche in September. The later in the season, the more likely there will not be enough snow. In fact, until you are almost there you will not know for sure whether there is enough snow or not.
Anyway, the Llao-Llao is great and you will have a wonderful time there.

I don't ski, so I don't know much about this but, obviously, the farther south you go, the more likely it should be that you will have good snow in the third week of September.
Wait till you get a reply from more knowledgeable people who should be out there somewhere. Skiing, maybe?
As there should not be too many people skiing at that time, perhaps you could leave the decision for the last minute, going to Bariloche if they still have snow there, or further south, if necessary.

In Chile i would keep an eye on Portillo , its really high ( about 3900 Mts) , i felt really bad the first day !!. Its an excellent ski center with snow , without...well theres nothing to do in the area, just eat good seafood with Chilean wine and grow your belly!
September regarding snow is a matter of luck...you might get excellent snow or nothing , same in Portillo.
The LLao LLao hotel is an absolute delight . Dónt miss it .
Avrooster might give some more input regarding the Llao Llao Hotel.

Hi! I've seen santiagov was very active in this forum last night.

For instance, in today's tourism section of "La Nación" (our equivalent of the New York Times) there is an ad for Cerro Castor in Ushuaia, which says you are sure to have enough snow until October.

I´ll check on Cerro Castor. Do you know this resort, santiago?
Any particular hints about llao llao, avrooster? Is there any paragliding activity nearby (I'm just moderately restless not particularly mad)

Don´t know Cerro Castor ( although I know Ushuaia). Read it`s for very basic skiers but surely will have some more snow than Bariloche in late sept. Ushuaia is a lovely small city with a few good hotels.
Remeber Bariloche is half way to Ushuaia from BA.
Anyway I would still choose Bariloche and do some paragliding if there´s no snow.

About paragliding while staying at the Llao-Llao, I suggest you contact their recreational area and ask them at [email protected]

There is 1 Paragliding "tour" company, i couldn´t take it because it was too windy , I suggest you reserve w/ considerable anticipation through the LLao Llao front desk, they will surely know about it.

I've checked cerro castor at their site and I must say I wasn't ... terribly excited. But I do thank you, it could be an option
Santiago do you know this resort? Do you have any accommodation suggestions at portillo (it looks very attractive)

In Portillo there was just 1 huge hotel an ski center when i went ( 10 years ago).
There might be a few more now.
Nice service, Chilean tend to be very proffesional and friendly .Excellent seafood.
Waiters should called Garzón not Mozo as in B.A.!!
