Day Trips from Nashville
Can you tell me is Lynchburg a good choice for a day trip from Nashville or is it too far?Any other recommended day trips? We've been to Franklin area.

It is probably about an hour to hour and
a half from Nashville to Lynchburg. It a nice place to spend an afternoon. You
could go to Jack Daniels for the tour and look around in the shops around the
square. Miss Bobo's Boarding House is
a unique place for lunch-you need to make reservations ahead of time. There
are also several other restaurants around the square.

Lynchburg might be closer to 1 1/2-2 hours. How about Bell Buckle? Pretty scenery, nice antique shops and other little stores and you can have lunch at the Bell Buckle Cafe. Don't forget to have a moon pie.

Lynchburg is a nice drive if the weather's good and the tour is fun. I'll second the recommendation for lunch at Miss Mary Bobo's if you can get in.
Loretta Lynn's Ranch & Museum in Hurricane Mills is another nice day trip.

Stones River National Battlefield is near Murfreesboro.
You say you have been to Franklin - have you been to the Carnton Mansion? There are a number of antebellum mansions on US 31 (Franklin Road) from Brentwood (south of Nashville) to Columbia, TN. Do some internet research on Maury County, TN historical sites. Some homes are privately owned, but some are open to the public. You can combine a pretty drive to Columbia, then west on 412 past several other old homes and churches, and then return to Nashville via the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Northeast of Nashville are Cragfont and Wynnwood, the latter a huge log home built in 1828. If you are in a Nashville book store, look for a book called "Majestic Middle Tennessee", it has pictures of hundreds of beautiful antebellum mansions in the area.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I read there is a BBQ Cook -Off in Lynchburg on Oct. 27 . Anyone know if that will effect JD tours that day?

We did a wonderful trip on the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is full of Civil War history. It took us 7hrs to drive from Nashville to Vicksburg because we made so many stops along the way to read about the history of the area. In Natchaz we stayed at the Mommouth Plantation which you would love. See: http://www.monmouthplantation.com/
This would be an overnight trip and that first day's drive would be a long one and then take a different route home. You are only permitted 50mph on the Parkway,(it's actually a Historical Park.) You could also just drive to Vicksburg on the Parkway instead of going all the way to Natchaz and visit the Vicksburg Battlefield. also a National Park) which we found very interesting. However, I hated the fact that only Union soldiers were buried there, Confederate soldiers were buried in the city cemetery which we also visited.

It has been many years since I have been to Stones River, so I don't have a recommendation. I just mentioned it because it is the largest battlefield within an easy drive of Nashville.
The "best" battlefield in Tennessee, imo,is Shiloh, but that is way off the beaten path.

Just a quick report--we did go to Lynchburg while in TN in Oct. It was the BBQ Cook Off weekend. Scenic drive from Nashville , and huge crowds in Lynchburg for the festival. Worth the trip, festival was fun and got to sample lots of different foods.
Also, spent one day walking around downtown Nashville- visited the TN State Musuem---huge and very interesting!
